Bit of both, I wouldn't just give it to family if they didn't need it, I'd want my family/kids etc. to learn the value of money, rather than having a silver spoon up their butts...

I have some really poor relatives back home, and we send back money every few months n stuff, and their priorities, above having food in their bellies and decent shelter, is having a tv, a dvd player, a computer... seriously, they don't even live in a proper brick house... I get so annoyed when I hear we send money for food n they've spent it on a tv...

That's what annoys me about relatives, if they know you're going to give them money regularly, they use you, they spend it on crap then complain that they don't have enough food, do the guilt trip thing, cos they know you won't be able to see your own starve... tbh I'd tell them to sell their bloody tv n fridge and get food... they have a FRIDGE and they dont have food to put in it... it's INSANE!

With stupid people like that, I wouldn't feel obligated to give them more money than they need...

With the poor, who truly need it... would be nice to give them money for food/water... or even build a school somewhere for kids who can't afford to go...
