im not sure if i want to continue going to derby uni,
i pretty much flopped the first year,
and im sure that was due to - freedom, partying, enjoying it, chilling etc etc.
i dont have the backing i do there as i do at home, such as parents motivating me etc etc ... the things you need.

i dont even really like derby,
i just like the people there, my friends etc etc.
and ... i know i can get a really good degree at teeside uni,
i dont think i need to be to derby?

i just dont know what do to?

Ellooo Rizzyy how u doin.. Sounds like u know the answer really hun.. U've pretty much said ur not gonna get much done at Derby due to the freedom u have there.. And u got a better chance of achievin sumin elsewhere.

So the only good thing about Derby are the people? Well u'll meet great people wherever u go.. Yeah u will miss ur mates but there will always be times to see them.. Times that won't affect ur uni work. At the end of the day u wanna get ur degree yeah? Work hard away from all the distractions.. I think it'll be worth it in the end

Maybe you need a year off education, think about it its been 19 years nonstop.

thats what i was thinking,
i got a descent job now working for barclaycard,
descent pay, easy going ...
i could just work for a year, take the time out,
and study at home after that.

or i was even thinking of going uni here,
and still working there part time.

Mate its the best thing you can do, I took two years off to earn some money, I have travelled quite a bit in that time whilst saving money. Its helped me regain some of that thirst to study, now im going back this autumn feeling refreshed and with a bigger outlook on life.

i would take a year our,
only thing im scared of tho is,
il do that, and that in the end i wont wanna go back to uni,
id just rather stay in the work environment.

so ... id rather just start the uni fresh and do it.
but decided im staying home now i think.
informed the folks, they are exstatic. lol

Dude take my advice... like Lubz said.. wherever you go u will make friends... no offence but what happened to you is happening to many others i know and i knew that is the outcome of things when people live out.

But dont get me wrong.. people living out also perform very very well.. and enjoy themselves at the same time. Let me give you a good example..
when i was at school i was like over the line or under the line when it came to doing good or bad.. i was a home boy goody tooshu maybe its because i moved into an area that i didnt like and didnt know anybody.. but besides that.. my mum use to tell me.. boys on the streets were doing and getting better grades than me when they were dossing about.. which was quite true when i found out at school...

So it goes to show people who seem like their having fun dossing about do well, and suprisingly they do it somehow.. but not everyone can.. the goody tooshu's cant even also. Looks like you got carried away and enjoyed yourself.. well you've had your living away experience so u cant complain!

If your serious about education you will tie ur head down and u will do what u know is best. Im sure you know that staying at home is the best option.. and you will take that option if your serious. So i suggest you come out Derby and go to a uni somewhere in your county where you can travel to and that does ur course.. i know people that want to study a particular course.. they know well the best uni that specialises in their course is two doors down.. yet they want to go to a uni far away that specialises in their course lesser.. why? because of the experiance and to have fun basically..

University is about having fun.. and i hear many stories of people being flagabasted and are having soo much fun.. where as when i look at myself.. my uni is rock dry, i go uni and come home.. simple as = no fun. A wise person will think wisely.. uni isnt about having fun.. its about doing good in ur studies.. then u can have fun and live up in a mountain for your experience if you like.

So move out of Derby and go to one which you can travel from home and back home.. but cut down on the fun.. peer pressure leads you to go out more and spend more.. (thats another matter i wont touch on, otherwise this thread will be almost a dissertation!) Take it as this year of yours was a big break.. you had ur fun.. now its time to put ur head down. Dont take a year out, because you will regret it.. your 1 year behind already and you dont want to add to that.. im 1 year behind also did 3 years at college..

Like you said yourself Riz.. getting into full time job now will make you love money even more and u will like it so much that you wont want to come out of it.. u will realise you need the money.. "the time will come" you will realise other things and you will say to yourself.. you dont want to go to university.. as u still need the "doe". Now.. if you keep saying to yourself.. you will go uni next time.. next time next time.. that next time will be soo late that you wont even want to go as you just might have more commitments by then. So its best to get your education out the way.. apply for uni asap this year somewhere in ur home county which you can travel to and from home. Trust me.. if you've seen graduation days like me.. you will soo want to work hard and be in one of those black gowns.

You say you got a good job.. thats good so what you worrying about? you got the exp and you can always come back to it after you finish uni.. simple.., take my advice my friend.. whoever you are whatever you do.. ive never wished or advised somebody wrong or falsley for anybody elses gain or for my own gain.. but for "your" own good..

So what you waiting for.. apply for a uni in your home county today! (lol that soo sounds like a sales pitch!)

Good luck!

P.S: ohh excuswa for the long essay ;)

Well thats how I felt when I first took a year out but now I feel more enthusiastic about going to university, some people live in a little shell where they are happy with gaining the minimum out of life.

Basically doing enough to please their parents whilst not crossing any lines, THAT is each individuals choice, they just want to get their degree 'done with'.

If thats your approach then I would suggest don't go into the work environment, you will probably end up staying, but if you feel you have enough mental strength and belief to push yourself to do what YOU want out of life then I would say take a year out simple as.

Its not just about taking a year out and earning money, its being able to gather your thoughts, see a wider perspective of society and comeback with a stronger intent on studying and achieving your goals.

thanks for it all people ! :) i rang teeside uni today (15 mins from home),
but im not gonna transfer as such, as doing second year, i want to do the first year again.

reason for this is first year at derby, i didnt learn too much.
education was shit, my input was shit, etc etc, and i think i will struggle in second year. they said send me a few emails etc etc, check what grades i got in college. cant go through ucas, as its too late, but they said it should be ok.
now gotta ring derby, let them know, sort student finances out, etc etc .... its a long process ! lol

but i think im doing the best thing, it was common sense really. just friends from there obviously saying come back do this do that, but in the long run, career wise, its the best. and your right about the work, i pay work p/t but, i want to do well in uni thats the priority, not making money right now, that can be done when ever i guess.

Thats another thing man.. living at home i had junk food 2 days in a row! No home food, its because i come home late from work.. and i felt sick after my belly was craving for curry.. no joke.. i always need to eat spicy! Even talking about it now im getting hungry!

But my mums going back to India in November that means i'll be home alone with dad and sis.. Thankgod my sis can cook almost like my mum!

Also its a good thing were all giving each other advice on education/work life etc!

i got into my second year,
i could go back and carry on its not that,
its just i didnt get the grades i wanted,
and didnt really learn to much.

i feel that if i went into second year, id be behind everybody already,
and i wanna be top of my class doing well instead of catching up,
thats why im deciding to do my first year again also.

but i agree, local is better.
