Was just browsing the net and came across this article:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...ry-850938.html Its amazing how most of us take all that we do for granted and never consider the consequences our actions have for other countries. The articles a bit of a read, but well worth it, A lot of insight and knowledge. One line that especially caught my eye; "Bangladesh, 1971-2071: born in blood, died in water"

i read a bit of it as doing something else at the mo, but sad to see that the end outcome wil be bangladesh being underwater and no more...
...this calls for some serious immagrating, some may be laughing but what else is there as i dont see the rich people in bangladesh helping the poor and giving money to help towards building the boat structures ready for the inevitable..

It's not even about the rich people in Bangladesh...
I'm sure I just read Bangladesh only contributes 0.3% of the world's carbon emissions... the same as Manhatten! It's US! We're doing the damage.... They've been using those trees and dams to prevent damage from floods all these years. ...it's not working, 'cause we're just ignorant about what's happening, and obviousl with time the effects of global warming are getting worse and worse.

Global warming and the melting ice caps... I read this article when it was published back in the summer... the sad thing is that Bangladesh has always been prone to flooding but now it's becoming on such a wide scale it's scary... They have alot of land that is right at sea level, so any significant rainstorm causes flooding in certain areas anyway. The thing is, in the past, few people lived in the flood prone areas so it was not as much of an issue but as the population has risen, people have been forced to live in the areas that flood alot.
So what are the solutions...people leave the flood prone land (which is not really viable), or put large man made levies in (too expensive), or raise the land (which can't be done without a substantial amount of money). Not a good situation but what it the rest of the world doing... as usual nothing much...
There's no jealousy in the grave... |

Not long ago I was in Bangladesh.
On the way back to Dhaka airport (we went by car) it was really humid weather. While we were driving I remember looking out the window (we were some where near Dhaka I think) and all I could see on the left and right was miles and miles of water. like a big big sea/ocean I was like. oh where are we, do people live here.and then uncle was like. "yeah a few people. few years back there was no water. now its all flooded hardly no dry land that is low lying". I remember asking him what do they eat (the few minority who live there.as they cant really grow stuff in "water" )"they catch fish" ![]() I never thought much of it back then. I was like oh.ok. and went back to sleep. Its a horrible thought tho. and the worst thing is its gonna happen. and doubt any ones gonna do much about it..... ![]() really sad though. so many people will be affected. a whole "country". I think the countries who contribute the most to global warming need to give all the bangladeshi's a visa into their country....lol (ok thats impossible )but think its up to them to help them and/or try to reduce the effects of this happening...

Most asked question that I've been thinking of (and likely you guys as well) is where are those people going to go, whats happening to the professions, military and farmers. Its a unique thing thats happening, but to be honest I can't ever see myself or my relatives choosing to go to any other South Asian country.

Its colder and more rain then usual this year :S I dont want my family back home to drown ![]() M4 Rahim - dunno know where every one going to go. theres so much people. and by the looks of it no one really doing anything about it. they probaly leave it till its too late, because its only the size of "Colorado" (even though it probaly has nearly same as half the population of the Usa.)
