eastenders to feature gay muslim storyline - The Asian Place - Desi Forum

tbh eastenders has never given asians a good charachter and a good storyline. they've never got it right. they always seem to be either victims, abusers or gay.

EASTENDERS is set for its most controversial storyline yet - when a Muslim character embarks on a passionate gay love affair.

Dashing developer Syed Masood shocks his conservative family when he falls for Albert Square's only openly gay resident, caterer Christian Clarke.
The pair will be shown snogging in scenes expected to shock and offend conservative Muslims.
Homosexuality is traditionally deemed forbidden by Islamic law and the Koran.

Syed - played by Marc Elliott, 29 - arrived in Walford in April, with his girlfriend Amira Shah (Preeya Kalidas).
But in the storyline to air next month, it is revealed Syed has been desperately trying to repress his true sexuality.
Viewers will see him struggle to reconcile his feelings for charmer Christian (John Partridge) with his religious beliefs. He also has to deal with the horrified reaction of his family - dad Mas and the Square's sharp-tongued ex-postmistress Zainab.
The BBC1 soap's executive producer Diederick Santer said the dramatic scenes are designed to appeal to 21st century Brits.
He said: "We've always tried to make EastEnders reflect modern life in multicultural Britain and we've always told social issue stories relevant to our diverse audience.

It will be rather interesting though i don't watch eastenders..
his only going to have an on screen kiss and its more to do with him battling his tendices as he knows it not right in his religion... thing is its all about what angle its going to be covered from? if they make it look like all muslims want gays to be killed or something then its going to cause problems..
thing is we should stop living in a bubble and acknowledge things like that do happen.. people do have GAY tendices they either give in or fight it to make sure they stay right for their relgion....

If they don't give them controversal story lines they'll just be an asian family making curries all their life...

Ofcom better watch out when its screened but muslims should also watch out on how the react cuz that would be precieved worse...

EDIT: i think they haven't really got it ever right is cuz they just research into what makes headlines and use that to reflect there characters i think they prob need an asian abroad for better story lines..

what happen to the whole shabnam and forced marriages story line i once heard about?

I don't get the Masood family, one minute they all religious the next their in the pub and then chasing girls!
