I done my Alevels and didnt go 2 uni.. Because after Alevels I knew I didnt want 2 study.. As everyone's metioned its more about experiance than qualifications..

Im in aite job and by the end of this year Insh'Allah I should be joining Barclays..

It also depends on the individual some people jus wana study.. But I think once u start earning no one really wants 2 go bak in to education.. Reason why the goverment have made incentives so if students stay on in sixthform/college they get that EMA..

At the end of the day a degree is nothing to employers but it is something for yourself. A degree isnt only for jobs but also to increase your own knowledge in the field you are interested in.

I have many family members some have degree's others dont. My dad dosent have a degree he left school around GCSE's i think.. and he's not doing so bad now. He has many years of experience and is good at what he does best. (Dont ask me what he does i wont tell you

I have other family members who have done GCSE's only and have good jobs. I think GCSE's are the most important honestly more important than a degree, as if an employer see's you without any GCSE's he will be worried. A-levels college and Universities are optional.

Like many of you have said, employers go for people with much experience not what they have or got. An employer wants the best for his company and that you can deliver, not that you have 10 degree's more than him. You can have 10 degrees in basket nitting and it wont get you anywhere...

But having a degree is handy and gives you a slight advantage in some cases. People tend to take degree's as they know the opportunity wont come again so easily.. thats why people rather like me try and get it over and done with after college...

my kids will know their mother is educated...and dats enuf for me, so they luk up to me...i can help them with their studies...im their role model..i use to think this degree it bulshit, but its made me alot wiser, appreciative...i hate that everyone thinks a degree is workin for a job it aint, its higher education.

employers nowadays r lookin 4 experience.... kno loads of ppl with degrees but didnt get the jobs they wanted cos they havent had the experience in the field

you don't always need to have a degree to get into a good job with good amount of income. i got so many friends and family who have really good jobs with great money, who didn'y go to university at all. there are some people who didn't even complete their a levels to have the best job. it's all about the experince nowadays. there is not alot of value for degree.

you will find people who have got a degree but don't actually know anything, like they don't have any experince. but at the same time there are some companies and emplpoyees who would like people who have a degree along with experince. in this case, there are degrees where you can do a work placements for a year or so to gain the experince and at the same time, you will have the qualification.

im going uni in sept and the degree im doing is four years with one year experince. coz that way i will complete the degree at the end and also have the experince which majority of the employers ask for when you apply for jobs. its good to have both coz that way you are more likely to get accepeted for a job than a person who just has a 1st degree. coz that person won't have no experince whereas the other person would have the degree and experince.

Going straight into work is good for people who don't mind earning an AVERAGE wage for the rest of their life. There is a chance they may go slightly better but will never reach the upper tier or atleast it will be very limited.

Having a degree means that you can always ask for more pay and aim for higher positions, granted it may not prove valuable in terms of experience but thats with any job, they always want experience. Students graft it out now so they can get an easier break later on in life.

I think another issue is (particularly amongst Asians), the large number of people going for Business and IT degrees, obviously that means more competition and so lower wages and limited opportunities.

Put it this way lubz, you may have your experience now, but without a lucky break you will remain an average worker, bottom of the food chain for a long while if not for the rest of your career.
