when do the students get there first installments of loans/grant and how does it work...issit installments or all paid at once ?

You get it in three installments, one in September, one in January and one in April, you should receive a payment schedule about 20 days before the start of your course which will tell you the exact dates you will get paid and how much you will get paid.
You should receive your first payment in the first week of starting your course. You will have to take the payment schedule to uni on the day of registration so they can scan the barcode and that will confirm that you are attending and after you've done that, you will get you payment within two days
