This is for both muslims and non muslims. Not looking for textbook answers.

For non muslims: What is Islam? How do u perceive it... When Islam is mentioned, whats the 1st thing that comes to your head...

Islam isn't just what my parents enforced upon me. It's not just a means to worship a higher power. It's a code to help you get through life, even the nitty gritty parts.

Whats the first thing thats mentioned? Prayer. Not just "thinking about god or getting close to god" but the actual act of cleansing yourself and going through the routine. I don't count "thinking about god or talking to him as prayer and asking for help", thats something else, its part of prayer but its not the whole package. Also think about manners...respect...cleanliness...hijab...white... and afterlife.

It's down to willpower. And how much willpower you have depends on how strong/in-tune you are with your aqeedah (creed).
