Wats tht?

My mate was telln me ths morning at the gym,and sed to me tht i lost my weight too fast and tht means tht have lost water

But im workn out too,and am much more toned than before,but he was talkn about me losn water weight and not fat.

Now my bodys actually smaller than before,my arms and legs ass ,and hips etc have gone smaller than before.

But how to tell wether thts water thts been lost or fat?

Umm can someone explain to me about water weight??

I dont really know much about it. but think you lose your water weight first before your fat. In your case maybe a bit of both?

When losing weight its inevitable that water will make up some of the weight loss. No matter how we lose weight or how long the weight loss takes everyone will lose water. Many factors determine the amount of water we lose in comparison to fat loss, they include:
  • which exercise is selected
    the diet chosen - for example, a low carb diet may increase water loss
    calorie intake - lowering calorie intake too much will cause more water loss
  • the physical state of the person - the amount of protein and carb stores before new diet
The water weight loss comes from a net loss of protein and carbohydrates especially during the first few weeks of a reduction in calories. On reducing calories the body needs to rely more on energy within the body and thus breaks down protein and carbohydrate for metabolism. When these nutrients are metabolised water is released. Fat stores do supply a little of the energy but at first a good proportion comes from protein and the limited stores of carbohydrates within the cells.

Yea when you first start losing weight, it's the water loss which is why after about 2-3 weeks, it's harder to lose weight. Someone told me that before I went on my diet and it turned out to be true!

No waaaayyyyy

always go and check my weight weekly on those scales tht boots have,thnk they show u fat levels aswell.

i buy scales at home then am gona get to obsessed wth weight loss and gona try and lose about three pounds a day so thts why dont buy and keep any at home,just check tht every week.

Hi Lucy I will try to keep this nice n simple to understand, I think it's the best way to learn before getting too complicated

I'll write it in steps

1)if for example you are eating less calories, that means you are restricting energy intake
2)the body will have NO alternatives BUT to USE the carbohydrates and breakdown proteins from the muscle cells for Energy purposes

((((((((((((((Remember these cells hold Water in them)))))))))))))))))))))))

3) so lets say these macrunutritions (i.e carbs and proteins) have been used as energy, what does that mean????

I just re-read your Opening Post in your thread....

Don't worry, there would be a good chance you have lost some fat aswel, cus Fat is stored Energy and the body will use that as a last resort.

As to knowing wheather you lost water weight. If you gain that weight back lets say 6lbs back. This is because your energy system stabalises and therefore your body replinishes (refills) the carbs n proteins back which were lost previousily therefore water regain.

But don't let this put you down. There's a good chance you have lost some fat aswel. So don't worry
