Default Eating and Sleeping Patterns

So what's your daily routine like? And I'm not talking about your weekends or the odd exceptions where you're partying, but a more normal week?

Why is it that Asian/Desis know very little about eating on time?

Do have family members/relatives who eat dinner after 9-10pm? Do they eat lunch around 3pm?

I suppose it depends on what time you wake up, and what time you go to work etc.

Over recent years, I've been trying to have dinner around 7-8pm (no later than 9pm). I try to get at least 7 hours sleep although I must admit, I'm slacking in this area.

I'm terrible with eating breakfast... usually grab a coffee on the way to work then have lunch around 12pm regardless of what time I started work. Dinner depends on what time I finish work and get home... usually no later than 8pm. My bad habit is eating out though... I don't get time at work to have a tea break so usually grab a drink while I'm working and no time for a snack so end up quite hungry by the end of the day especially if I finish at 6pm... so end up buying something on the way home. Plus I eat out a lot in general.

My family is brilliant with eating on time and my mum has always encouraged me and my siblings to eat regular meals at regular times BUT I have some family members who eat at ridiculous times... like at 10pm and then go to bed an hour later.

My eating and sleeping pattern is pretty regular. Once or twice a week I might deviate from that though...

But on the whole, during the week I tend to have breakfast at 7.30am, eat lunch around 1.30pm and tend to have dinner around 7.30pm/8.00pm.

Oh wow... that's a lot of sleep. I usually have between 6-7 hours on weeknights and might stretch it to 9 hours on the weekend when I sleep in.

200 kcals?! Holy camels, that's not good at all. I don't want to assume or anything, but 'IF' you are on a diet, that's not the right way to go about it.

And no wonder you're sleeping a lot, lack of energy and sugar in the blood stream will definitely make you feel lathargic and tired.

This is just for a normal working Monday to Friday:

I have a cup of tea before going to work and if I get up early enough, I eat a bowl of cereal.

I have a snack around half 10 maybe a packet of crisps or soup now that it's cold.

I eat lunch at around 12 - depends on what they have at the canteen!

Then I have another snack like crisps or soup at around 3 or half 3.

Maybe in between all that I have a bit of fruit like grapes, strawberries or raspberries.

Then when I get home from work any time between half 5 and 6, I eat whatever has been made (usually a curry with chapattis).

Then I don't eat anything after that at all, no snacks. Just drinks.

On a weekend it's different. Depending on what time I wake up, let's take this weekend as an example:

I ate breakfast around half ten or 11, usually desified scrambled egg with chapattis, on Sunday's I have boiled egg with toast.

Then eat lunch around 1ish.

Have a small meal around 4ish

Main meal around 7 or 8 or 9!

On Sunday's don't have a small meal around 4ish though, just have 3 meals.

And on weekends I don't have any snacks inbetween meals whatsoever.

On working days I try and go to sleep before 12 but sometimes that doesn't happen because I'm not sleepy. On weekends I sleep around 1 or 2 in the morning.

Cheeky, your routine needs some serious care and attention.

You need to ask yourself why you're staying up so late, and are these things worth it? In the long wrong, probably not.

Your day ahead will be much better if you get a good night's sleep. And try to have breakfast and lunch, they're the most important meals of the day.

If anything, you can afford to skip dinner in the evening as your body doesn't require as much fuel/energy at that time.

Your routine is back to front - on a serious note, flip it around the other way.

Dude, You are so right seriously...

I just can't seem to sort it out.. its like a bad habbit.. i mean i would be tired yet i still would not want to do to bed. And half the time im up for pointless reasons chattin away on msn etc... rare occasions yes im doing work but thats it...

I'm going to try and wake up at 7am tomorrow if i can do that... I can have breakfast properly... make a pack lunch... so i have something to eat at lunch.. walk to the bus stop without risking my life which i do every day as i run across the road and get to college on time.. which would make everyone happy.

But thats what it is.. if i could just wake up early.. things would be perfect but i can't seem to? i guess its to do with eating food late as well as going to sleep late..

argh dude i wish it suit myself out its going to get worse thou in December cousins wedding... and asian weddings are a lot of late nights and hard work....

Sometimes it is to do with eating late, but what excuse do I have?! I eat at around half 5 or 6 and I still can't sleep early lol. I try and aim for before 12 or 11. I usually do go to bed before 12 but I don't sleep straight away! And I have to wake up at 6 but even though I put 2 alarms on, I still end up getting up at half 6 sometimes 7 then I'm rushing around still half asleep lol and then I don't get time to have breakfast, just down a mug of tea before zooming off to Bradford lol.
