I have just finished this book. I couldn't put it down and finished it in almost one reading. It's been written by Khaled Hosseini. It's focuses on the lives of two Afghan women, Mariam & Laila, and how they end up crossing each other. It starts from 1960 and spans to the present day.


I don't believe I've ever shed as many tears whilst reading. It is truly an amazing tale that I'd recommend.

Queen Bee, I swear the book is amazing. Strangely enough after reading your thread and the mention of Rumi, the next page I read mentioned Rumi.

It's got the plot, sub-plots.. but it isn't complicated.. 3 parts but the third part shifts narrative between Mariam and Laila. I'd love to know what you think about it after you've read it.

Most def, I just read up on some reviews, sounds so interesting. There's sooo many books I want to read at the minute. I just finished Freakonomics, now reading The Alchemy of Happiness. Trying to break the habit of reading a billion books at once hehe, I'd like to read this one when Im done : )

I love books. I tend not to read more than one at once 'cause things fuse from both and I get a bit out of sync with them.

I suggest a book club at one point.. Never did quite take off.

Yeah it ruins it. I used to do that when I was 14/15. Not now, I like the atmosphere of one book to remain, else it kills it completely. Hehe.

That book was truly beautiful.
It takes a lot for movies and books to make me cry, but I was weeping for a whole day after reading this.

That was such a beautiful book.. I cried so much and his prose was just wow.
It's just one of them books. I really am not gonna try and explain, I really won't do it justice.

Do you feel Laila served Mariam justice? After what Mariam did for Laila.. Do you feel Laila does enough to mark it, at the end?

If it was clumsily written it could have really fallen apart. The fact that it as a novel it's fiction but the reality element exists.. It really does.

After Breaking Dawn this is my next book my mate loves this..
their the follow on book from this as well isnt there the kite runner? or is that before this?

The Kite Runner is the first novel written by this Author, I believe.

P.S. I Love You as a book was so lovely. I like the fantasy, 'sprinkle of fairy dust' kind of imagination Cecelia Ahern has. The film was a disappointment. I hated it. Really did.. The sparkle was lost. Holly & Gerrys' bond was better in words than on screen.
