Default would the old firm do well in the premiership?

the long discussed issue seems to b a lil closer

would it benefit the premiership havin them in?

would it actually benefit the two old firm teams? seeing as they seem to be auto qualification for the champ league - they'd lose alot of that money

and finally would they actually be any good in the premiership?

No. Simple point, its the ENGLISH premiership and should stay like that. IF they were to be part of the english game, then they should start from the bottom and work there way up to the premiership, just because they have status in Scotland doesnt give them a bye into the premiership.

Lol I cant see them being a major hit in the premiership anyways, probably mid table teams at most.

Well Welsh teams are in the leagues below so if they were to come to the Premier league it wouldn't be english anymore.

it'll be easier for some teams to play against teams in france lol

portsmouth to glasgow = damnnnnnn

I think they would be mid table, possibly top 8, but they could probably improve their squads with the extra income, although the travelling they would have to do would be crazy, when you include cup matches etc.

i think one of them would claim the 5th spot every year.

and as said above, welsh teams are in the lower divisions.

saying that cardiff and wrexham are welsh teams

i think someone like villa wouldnt have much trouble beating a rangers or a celtic.

maybe bit lower down towards hull's stokes and blackburns would struggle.

was listening to talksport today, drive time, the great ian wright,
and i agreed with him, they should definetly come, but start in the championship,
i mean they get like 60,000 people a game, they would still get that in the champo.
would be a good thing i think.

and remember, they can't attract the players because of the league they are in, they are wealthy clubs, better players will be attracted if they come to the premo.

yeah but look at it this way

celtic for example get season in and out champions league football. they get to the group stages and maybe futher sometimes. they get regular trophies season in and out

why come to the premier and risk seasons without a trophy? without champ league football? even if they cant get top line players they still get better players than some english clubs which they'd join.

i cant see it happened tbh. too many clubs would lose revenue and the other scottish clubs would too.

because of the competition, they would be better off playing in europe with better players and against better opposition week in and week out.

i also thing it would be good for the scottish league, no diff winner since 1985 or something.

personally i think the desire to play bigger and better opposition is outweighed by the money aspect.

football is all about the money rather than playing good football. look at the premiership - its all money

plus can you imagine say an arsenal or liverpool wanting to risk their champ league spot? or pompey with all that travelling?

the only attraction would be havin the two visit the english grounds but even that novelty would wear off.

The Premier League, the Football Association, their Scottish counterparts and the Football League would all have to give their approval.
Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are likely to be against the plan as it would affect their income.
Others such as Aston Villa, Tottenham and Everton, who may consider it unlikely they would ever drop out of a 20-team Premier League, may also have misgivings.
Mid-table clubs might also struggle to cope with a drop in television money as the cash is spread more widely.
BBC - BBC Sport: Chick Young: Old Firm departure would be ruinous

Default Meh…

Here in Canada, our clubs play in US football (or North Americans like to call it, soccer) leagues (MLS and USL).

Anyway, as an outsider, it would be nice to see Celtic play in Premiership. (I personally don’t give a damn about Rangers ).

yeah but the league isnt as established as the uk ones and there isnt the same inter-nation club competitions that europe has.

the usa system is different - they're pickgin and choosing which cities are allowed to join the mls so the demand is greater to

the blog above makes a good point how both teams - rangers and celtic are more infatuated with other countries than their own

We got our own version of FA cup (Canadian cup for Canadian clubs and US open cup for Americans) and (CONCACAF) Champions league.

but no offence - neither nation is developed sufficiently to say take on the likes of the mexicans, the carribean nations or the southern american teams.

the whole set up of the mls couldnt be more different if it tried. there's no relegation, no promotion, no open market on signings, everything is tightly regulated.
