A woman has told of her distress and heartache at malicious e-mails suggesting that she is a man. She said the accusations had meant she had to quit her job at an all-Muslim girls’ school. She spoke after the school sent a letter to all parents saying they had reluctantly accepted the resignation of Shifa Patel and had “irrefutable medical evidence” she was “a female” despite “concerns raised by parents” over her gender. The move came after emails were circulated showing private photographs, which have been seen by Asian Image, of Ms Patel with short hair and wearing a shirt and trousers. Earlier police were called to the Al-Islah Muslim Girl’s School, Audley Range in Blackburn as a group of people turned up and demanded the sacking of the woman known to many as Apa Shifa who was school administrator. It is believed someone began the e-mail campaign after copying the pictures from a Facebook page. Apa Shifa has been in the country for under six years and at the school for five years.
