Scholes - Hes got more of a subtle greatness about him...

& Gerrard ain't consistant like when playing for club and national huge difference.

i'd pick scholes every day of the week,
maybe not as such this season, and before, as he was injured,
but if we talking about both in their primes, then it would be scholes.

put it this way, england without gerrard are alrite,
engladn without scholes ... well they are still begging him to come back

Tough choice, Gerrards helped lift his team with a great performance in FA cup and champs league finals, also scoring in the uefa cup final we won, as well as many dominating performances in crucial games, is a complete midfielder.

Scholes, is nearly a complete midfielder, he has it all apart from tackling, hes one of the worst ive seen lol, but what a player, he controls the pace of the game is an attacking player, great technique and football mind, won the premier league numerous times and champs league altho he didnt play in the final, due to his poor tackling.


Different types of players though, gerrard is a box to box midfielder, scholes was an attacking midfielder, both very good passers and score some great goals, gerrard is more about driving a team forward, scholes is about controlling the tempo and arriving in the box late or shooting in and around it.


Im going with gerrard, for the simple reasons, he is a more complete player and has never played in a team with as many good players as scholes has, who played with some of the best in the prem i.e. keane (who allowed him to attack), beckham, giggs, van nistelrooy, cole, cantona etc. etc.

He had top talent around him, Gerrards never had that, hes had to be the top dog and drag liverpool out of the gutters many times and no one can do it everytime.



Fantastic player though scholes, hes very good to watch for a football purist, all the coaches admire his professionalism and talent, and apparently is the only player never not to get the hair dryer treatment from fergie lol.

im goin for scholes.

his vision nd passing is sublime, this season hes not been all that due to age nd injury but hes been doing it for years. yes hes played alongside a good team, but scholesy has always been a integral part of uniteds midfield nd more often than not has shone. his only down side is his tackling, which is absolutley shambolic. other than that hes the premierships leading midfielder in goals scored, 7 league titles, CL medal nd 3 FA cups. been a big game player, specially in 99, in our treble season, was immense in europe against inter nd en route to the final.

even the legend zidane, rated him highly, even once saying, he wonders why scholes hasnt been named world player of the year.

loyal player, never in the spotlight, keeps himself to himself, no wonder him giggsy nd neville are such legends at united, great careers.

Im just saying you cant dispute the fact that Gerrard has had to do more for his team, where as a player in utd's team can go a few games playing badly without being noticed, someone like gerrard can't as there aren't many other match winners or dominators, so theres always been more emphasis put on him, he started off as a defensive mid, got turned into a right winger, played right back, then in attacking roles and then in his rightful position as a box to box player, wherever he played he looked the best player for the position, and thats because hes a complete player, no other top class player can do everything, they might excel more in 1 or 2 areas but gerrard is world class in many.

Therefore I would choose Gerrard because each player has his own qualities and neither outshines the other imo, and I wouldn't argue too much with ppl choosing scholes or gerrard as its pretty difficult. His medals have been won around a fantastic team(s) moulded by ferguson, but he is still one of the best the prem has had.

I wouldn't even take into account the last couple of seasons as he's getting older nd already proved hes been one of the best, no need for quotes from other players, as many have (along with coaches) said gerrard is the most complete player football. I think quitting england has actually helped scholes prolong his career, he might not be able to do the runs into the box etc, anymore but he can still do a job and the young players will learn a lot from him, I wouldn't bet against him joining sunderland under keane in a couple years if they stay up!

I'd give it to Scholes over the years he's played alongside some of the best in the world but he's always managed to shine bright enough amongst stars.

It's easy being the best on a team that lacks talent but it's hard even getting noticed on a team full of talent.

Shcoles is very underrated.

He's not underrated, all the players, pundits and managers acknolwedge his ability and what he's done over the years.

Yeh he shined bright but not always above, you had keane, beckham, giggs, cantona etc. all who stole the show at some point and working together not only made the utd team top class but also improved their games. I think he benefited more from being around other world class players, I couldn't see him making the same impact had he swapped places with gerrard, where as I could see gerrard making an impact at manure.


For example now, you see ronaldo, rooney, tevez etc. all with top class ability, they make space for each other, assists, goals etc. we don't have as many at liverpool, only gerrard and torres, if those two played alongside better players then they would get even more goals/assists etc.
