I don't think it's informal at all, in fact, it's 'in' at the moment.
It's what my cousin (the groom!) wore on his wedding (2months ago). You'll see the same style with some of the 'expensive' shirwani's out at the moment.

It's good to be different. Soon enough, everyone will be jumping on the rickshaw -it's Asian timing to be late with everything, even catching on to trends.

Real style is never "in" or "out". It stands the test of time because the clothing is literally a piece of engineering excellence. Cravats have been around since the 18th Century, it was in then and it sure is in now but with good choice surely. I doubt you'd see someone wearing a bow tie to a white-collar job; even though it still comes under the class of "Necktie". I'm sure one could classify a cravat as a "neckband".
And I disagree with the Nike Air Shox comment, I think baby blue timberlands would be a better point EG lol. ;D
