Why Don't / Why Do you believe in God?

Religion is something that has me confused in the last couple of years, in particular the last few months. I always believed in God but then when really bad shit began to happen i kinda lost faith, i still believe god exists, but i just dont believe in praying to him because it doesnt make a difference.

I know what you mean, I was like that too, bad stuff happened and I lost faith so I stopped praying, I didn't see the point 'cause it doesn't change anything!

the onus is on providing the proof not the other way around. there not a shred of evidence that fairies, Mithra or the flying spaghetti monster do not exist. should i believe in all that too?

actually loki i do agree with you.
there's a book which I'm reading right now called 'god is not great how religion poisons everything' i've only just started it but it is really a good read whether or not you agree with his position.

interesting debate. either way both sides will not be able to convince, either side their point. (no one ever does in these kind of debates do they always stubborn)

but even still. there is no god but Allah (my personal oppinion)

I respect other peoples views. but just because you cant see something.

If your muslim. Allah tests you to see if you still call him in your bad times.
and its really all about patience.

The weak minded ones give up. while the strong minded ones stay strong and that way. even if you lose in this life. atleast you can die happy that you kept your imam till the end. and you shall be rewarded

but it really is all about patience. x life is a test remember. this life is nothing for "muslims". its only a test. the after life is what counts.....because thats where you will be spending eternity either in Jannat (heaven) or Allah forbid Jahannam (hell)

well. thats what I think and believe anyway.

Religion is the single biggest cause of conflict in the world. i can't remember where but i read that there has been more then a million wars in the last 100,000 years and nearly all of them have been the direct or indirect result of religion.

I disagree. Religion doesn't cause conflict, people do! Take Islam, as the obvious example. There was a time when Christians and Muslims studied side by side. Then the Christians decided (as a political matter more than a religious one) to launch their crusades. And it's still about politics, only this time, it's being driven by certain Muslims in the middle east. Religion isn't the cause, it's only the lever that the leaders use to direct the will of their followers.

Look at the Buddhists in Tibet. The Chinese government would have you believe that the monks are violent. But they aren't. The conflict itself is all politically driven, it's not a matter of religious doctrine.

At the end of the day, all religions, understood properly, lead to a compassionate life. But people, being as they are, can twist anything to suit their purposes, which are sometimes not so Godly.

what makes the Quran "true"? well. doubt you've read it. but one of the reasons its "true" (for muslims) is it has facts in there and things before they even happened in the real world. its all written down.
