Acceptable sins?

By an acceptable sin I mean people doin things dat are against their religion but they do it and feel they are doing nothing wrong.

One example is smoking. It is addictive/nasha and haram in Islam, but for some reason it is an acceptable sin.

Another example is having close friends of the opposite sex which is haram. So if you chat to boys/girls on da fone or go out wiv dem etc den you are committing a sin. BUT again despite it being haram it is an acceptable sin as a lot of people do it and feel they are doing nothing wrong.

Why do u think certain sins are acceptable?

We all sin and none of us are perfect. But...

Do u feel u r doin nothin wrong or do u do stuff and feel bad cuz u kno its haram?

I think it all comes down to picking and choosing certain rules to fit with your lifestyle...

As bad as it sounds its like in my mind i have a chart of sins... Acceptable sin.. bad sin.. very bad sin.. sin i would never commit

Acceptable for me would be the having friends of the opposite sex now that way i see it is.. thou i know its wrong and i should not do it. I think well God knows i'm not sleeping with them ( which i see as the ultimate sort of sin that i would never do) That God will let it pass by in a way?

its bad we do that but we like in a society were we can't help but commit sins to fit with our lifestyle an example would be a smoker... if all his friends smoke they he will to cuz it fits with his lifestyle...

At the end i guess Only God can judge us.. and we should refrain from trying to commit sin even if it is the littleist thing in your head from a lie to sleeping with someone

at the end of the day Only God knows what sort of scale he measures us on... so were not really right in putting a scale on our sins...

Another example is allowing a Jehova's witness to take blood transfusions as it's against their belief yet in life threatening situations many of them have no choice and do. I think there's nothing is wrong with that simply because you should decide how you want to lead your life and not let religion dictate what you should or shouldn't do if you want to. I don't follow Islam very closely, but I stick to the no alcohol/drugs/pork rule as it allows me to stay away from things that are detrimental to my health. Good question though

There is no such thing as an acceptable sin, for one and only one reason. You will be judged on Judgement Day by Allah and He will decide wether or not your sin was in innocence or not. Coz you become answerable for a sin when you come into 'knowledge' of it. So when you learn that Smoking is haraam, you stop. If you don't then you'r answerable to that. And it you can't bypass it by not learning Islam, coz it's your duty to increase your knowlede too.

Some people talk about "Necessary Evils" like paying Tax. You live in a country which has a law onto you to pay tax, and if you don't you can go to jail. So this is a necessary evil. But is that acceptable? When you can move to a Muslim country that takes no tax? Hmm... Again that's for Allah to decide, and for which most of us hope will be forgiven.

It's human nature for someone to chase their desires, coz if you leave a man without knowledge of Allah or any higher power, then he will chase his desires. This is the same with those who sin and know it's a sin, but still do it. It's desire that makes that dude do that, and the weakness of man that allows him to do that. We are not perfect and it's a struggle to not chase our desires, but we all have to try and become that person.... Desire come from the Devil and it is the Devil who whispers to you that your sin is a 'acceptable' one because its minor or that you can make it up later. LOL.

We all sin, but we all must repent and rid ourselves of the desires that displeases Allah. No sin which has been declared Haraam is acceptable, repent and ask for mercy, but you have to try with a sincere heart to stop.... It is for Allah to decide which sins and whom will be forgiven.......

I think some sins are considered 'acceptable' because we live in a western society where those sins are considered normal. Would those same sins be acceptable if we lived in a Muslim country? Most definitely not.

@ Shorty generally it is accepted by scholars in Islam that it is ok to have friends at work/school becuz it is necessary. I'm referring more to guys u mite link up or chat 2 on da fone etc outside of school/work.

Coz 'Allah's mercy is greater than his wrath', he has forgiveness, even for the woman who sold her body for money for her whole life, you have to repent with a sincere heart. And it ain't about sayin, 'oh I'll repent when I'm 40 or 60' coz Allah knows that before you thinkit. Thing is, he already knows in what state you will die, a Muslim or a Kaafir, so he knows in what state your heart will die... Are you one of those whom will be guided or one of those whom will be lead astray? If you are the latter, then whatever you do, you'll never find your way. Coz you don't choose Allah, Allah chooses you.

Every sin will be accountable for, however you want to justify it by using whatever excuses from Satan, is up to you. At the end of the day, Allah knows what was the real reason, He knows what excuses you used, and He knows how much it was your fault. Your accountablility will be exactly what will be right for the sin..... If it is excused, it will be up to Allah.... Like eating pork if someone threatens to kill your fam if you eat it.... It's a sin, but we hope will be forgiven given the circumstances. Or eating pork as a 4 year old not knowing what it was or that is Haraam. Allah knows. You have to have faith, thats what it comes down to.

Remember that the only sin that will not be forgiven on Judgement Day is Shirk (assigning partners with Allah).

I'm not supermuslim, I have my own difficulties applying Islam in the same way as you do. But I am scared of Allah, and I hope Allah has mercy when that time comes.

But the question is what really are our necessities? And what are things we've chosen to do ourselves?

Some say talking to the opposite sex is a necessity in this day and age. While true to some extent, it is not a necessity to have their tongue down your mouth.

I agree with EG. I think obviously degrees of sins, sins that hurt someone are worse then those that don't. But even sins that hurt someone are becoming 'accepted'... i.e. backbiting. Most people do it without much thought.

At the end of the day Allah hu Aalam. Allah knows best. Whatever you do or don't do is between you and him only and let's just hope he showers us with mercy... because we sure as hell haven't earnt it.

Real. That is the mentality. But one of the greatest flaws of human kind is that we fail to realise the implications of our actions. Some say sex itself is a necessity! As you said what really is necessary? Everyone draws their own line of sin. But Islam clearly draws it for us. Is it any more necessary to be chattin shit and giggling away on the phone to one of "mates" of the opposite sex then to be having their tongue down ur mouth?
