Default Friday Namaz? (prayers)

Hey guys

I knew that reading Namaz was essential/ compulsory in Islam.

I've always thought each and every Namaz is important.

I was chatting to another guy last week and he said he never misses Juma (friday nama, as that was the most important.

I'm not going to sit here and lie. I haven't read a Namaz for over 5 years or so and probably like 3 or 4 times in 10 yrs.. Apart from being to 2 or 3 funerals.

What is soo significent about the fridays prayers?

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: "Friday is the best of days. It was on this day that Hadrat Adam (peace be upon him) was created, it was on this day that he was granted entry into Paradise, it was on this day that he was removed from Paradise (which became the cause for man's existence in this universe, and which is a great blessing), and the day of resurrection will also take place on this day." (Sahih Muslim)

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: "There is such an hour on Friday that if any Muslim makes dua in it, his dua will definitely be accepted." (Bukhari, Muslim)
The ulama have differed in specifying that hour which has been mentioned in the Hadith. Shaykh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlawi (Allah have mercy on him) has mentioned 40 different opinions in his book Sharh Sifrus Sa'adah. However, from among all these opinions he has given preference to two opinions:
  1. That time is from the commencement of the khutbah till the end of the prayer,
  2. That time is towards the end of the day.
  3. A big group of ulama have given preference to this second opinion and there are many Hadiths which support this opinion. Shaykh Dehlawi (Allah have mercy on him) says that this narration is correct that Hadrat Fatimah (Allah be pleased with her) used to order her maid on Fridays to inform her when the day is about to end so that she could occupy herself in making zikr and duas. (Ash'atul Lama'aat)
The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: "Of all the days, Friday is the most virtuous. It is on this day that the trumpet will be blown. Send abundant blessings upon me on Fridays because they are presented to me on that day." The Companions (Allah be pleased with them) asked: "O the Messenger of Allah! How will they be presented to you when even your bones will not be present after your death?" The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) replied: "Allah Most High has made the earth forbidden upon the prophets forever." (Abu Dawud)

Prophet Muhammad (saw) has given a strong warning to a person who leaves his Jumah prayer without a good reason. In one hadith Abdullah bin Masud (ra) narrates what the Messenger of Allah (saw) once said about the people who did not come to the Friday Prayer without a good reason.
"I wish to appoint someone to lead the prayer and myself go to the houses of those who missed the Friday Prayer and set fire to their houses with the occupants in them." (Muslim, Ahmad).
Another hadith states, "A person who leaves 3 Friday prayers consecutively, Allah puts a seal on his heart."

On Friday it is more rewarding to get ready quickly to go to the Mosque.
Abu Hurairah (ra) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, "On Friday the Angels stand oust the door of the mosque and write down the names of the people in the order in which they enter the mosque for Friday prayer. The first group of people who enter the mosque get the reward equivalent to that of sacrificing a camel, the people who enter the mosque after them get the reward equivalent to that of sacrificing a cow. The people who enter the mosque after them get the reward equivalent to that of sacrificing a ram and the people who follow on likewise get this reward of a Chicken, egg and so on there is a gradation of rewards for the people as they enter. The angels keep writing the names of the people as they enter the mosque until the Imam sits down to give Khutbah. Then the angels collect their registers and sit and listen to the Khutbah." (Bukhari, Muslim).

I've been told if you miss four Juma prayers in a row you loose faith.

Shouldn't people focus on their daily fardh prayers, than trying to do extra acts of ibadah?

3 in a row.

Yes Juma is important, but the Farz duties also need to be done.

Friday prayer is the most important. Memphis is kinda right on that part. It's the last strand that you have between being Muslim and not being Muslim. It is always said the MAIN thing that distinguishes you from non-muslims is prayer. In which, Friday is the most important. That goes for men & women as well.

So, Zero... please forgive me if I misunderstood, but technically, if I was still Muslim and wanted to do my bare minimum, I should just pray at Jummah, and forget about Fajr, Zuhr, Asr, Magrib and Esha?

Well, yeah I should think so, but I wouldnt say forget about the other ones, jsut acknowledge that one day you'll be able to do them. There no substitute for praying.. Thats how I started off cos I found it the easiest. Being once every week. Then I moved onto doing the evening and afternoon prayers...then the morning one. It's all about intention: wether you want to have progress or just stick to the friday one being "minimum muslim"?

I think I'm going to have to read up on this.
'Cause I am sure that daily prayers were fardh...
Fardh being obligatory.

If I remember correctly, Jummah is also fardh but only for men, and if it can't be offered, then Zuhr must still be offered.

Now, this is all from what I learnt many years ago, and I may be wrong... but Gut Feeling says, Daily Salaah should be above Jummah Salaah in the priorities list...

I'm not disagreeing that daily prayers are fardh though, I'm saying for someone who has not prayed or just started to pray? You can pick things up during the sermon as well.

Friday prayer is compulsory for men to pray in congregation. Women don't have to do it at the mosque, but they do it at home so thats probably just a normal Zuhr? But they can still do it in congregation at home if possible = more reward?

I dont think you're going the right way about it when saying daily prayers are first in the priorities list. Think of it like this: Prayer is first in the priority list but friday prayer is the most important? It's not really good practice to just settle with daily prayers and neglect the friday one?

Everything is important.

People do as much as their Imaan accomodates for. You should do as much as you can do and endeavour to increase your Imaan every year (especially in Ramadhan).

That said obviously if you don't pray Jumuah, start, if you pray Jumuah strive to pray another prayer (Dhurh or Asr) once that becomes habitual increase with another prayer and try and do two etc. Whatever the case you should do frequently, as what you do frequency garners greater reward.

Of course there's reward in praying Jumuah, but not everyone gets the same reward, Allah knows what's in your heart so you will get based on that. Else all prayers are compulsary. It isn't sufficient to just pray Jumuah, but we all know we Humans are feeble folk so strive to do what you can.

Incredible, no person in here should judge you, it is not for us to do that; Allah guides whom he wishes, we are only here to bring you the word. InshAllah nobody is judged before he comes into knowledge, so now that you know why it is important to pray Jumuah and therefore have acquired the knowledge, you become answerable to the sin. Remember you can lie to us, but you can't lie to yourself.
