Default Why are you getting educated?

This debate has just popped up in my head courtesy of a debate I was having elsewhere.

I'm wondering why are you guys getting educated is it mainly for a career or because you like studying?

With wages for post graduates being so low I thought most people would be better off working for the years and then setting up a business and making some real money instead of putting years into University to earn only a little more than an uneducated worker.

When I look at studying it just seems pointless to me when it's not much more difficult to save up money while your supposed to be studying in University and then set up a business that will expand and increase your income over the years.

    Am I missing the point?
I mean nobody likes me, everybody hates me, keep that shit coming, watch how much stronger it makes me!

This is the 2nd time I believe you put this same topic up.

I wont bother to repeat myself as theres been numerous threads in the past.

So a simple answer would be:

    Because I feel like it.

You don't study for financial gain but because you like it?

Well that makes sense since post graduates don't make much.

Uhmm OK fair enough I'm surprised I was expecting to hear about how somebody thinks a degree is going to help them get some real money into their pocket.

Seems like people are more realistic nowadays.

Lifes not about earning money. Dont be shallow.

A big wallet aint going to get you a good wife or good friends.

Mack, from what I remember you didnt do too well in your GCSES.

I did alryt in my GCSE'S

We've gone off on totally different tangents. Your ranting about how education is bad and Im ranting the opposite.

We have a tottally differnt outlook. Im an academic and your not. Thats fair enuff to say isnt it?

My friends obviously share the same thoughts as me, likewise your friends. Just cos your view is stronger (so it "may" seem) doesnt mean its the best for every person.

Its pretty Simple, i see others who are Illiterate those who sit on their ass all day hoping 2 get get somewhere in life. I pity them..dont get me wrong there are also those who have financial strains aswel..therefore cant go further.

Education is essential,i want 2 be able 2 get good a well paid job and enjoy my life. Realistically speaking without a heck of alot of experience and skills..u cant really walk into a high post career..so by going onto further education it gives u a chance 2 devlop and realise ones abilties.

Only one thing is certain--that is, nothing is certain.
If this statement is true, it is also false.

Man zero I work for a property developer now who is my relative and the guy working below me has a masters degree and I pay him.

I don't see whats the point of getting an education if your going to be earning so little and working for people who barely got their GCSE's, my dad has like three educated guys work for him and they make scrapes off what he makes.

My dad is actually educated but when he was using his education he wasn't making anything, when he put his head to business he had an empire a decade later.

I really really don't understand the student mentality and I don't see why people can't argue this shit like human beings.

Personally with me I wanted guys with degrees working for me looking after my business while I enjoy life I don't want to be the guy working for some prick getting a fixed wage I want the opportunity to reach for the sky and use my own incentive to go further and boss about pencil neck geeks.

You got your own groove and hey it's different strokes for folks but it still deludes me to this day, makes no sense at all.

Note: Postgraduates dont get fixed wages, thats for people who dont have degrees and work for someone else. However, people who get degrees obv work for someone else. Thats how microsoft came about. Bill gates aint got no degree but hes got sooo many graduates working for them who earn something like 50k+. Now that isnt peanuts to you and me.

It also takes skill btw. For personal note, I would wnat to see how you get on in the future, wether your running an empire or not. It would be interesting huh? And Ill tell you if Im earning crap. Deal?

Man zero if I go into business and you do a job(what do you plan to do anyway?) I will bet you any money I will be earning a LOT more than you.

I see the money that goes and comes into property development and you'd have to be a high profile investment banker with big bonuses to come close to that margin.

Business is big money and not to put you down at all but you won't even come close to what I'm earning if I stay on this track and get a foothold, not even close.

I grew up around a business environment since I was maybe 4 so maybe I've grown up around businesses but in my family the doctors and lawyers are the smallest earners with the big business owners being a hell of a lot wealthier.

Yeah we'll see where things go I'm still taking my first step but if everything works out I doubt I'll be looking back again but I wish you success in what you do but I can't help but say it man; if you think your going to get rich while somebody else is paying your wage I honestly think your fooling yourself.

Mack, I dont intend to be rich.
After I graduate, Im probly going to go into software engineering or programming. Thats going to be a nice tidy packet, but nothing flash. I aint getting no ferrari or mansion lol.
Youve already won man, of course your going to be richer than me, long term, Im looking to become a teacher, thats peanuts. But I can live my life knowing Ive benefited others rather than just myself. That my friend is a reward more greater than profit.

I used to think like that too but you know once I was watching TV and I heard about how Bill Gates gave 40 billion dollars to charity.

They reckon that 40 billion dollars will save 200 million lives over some odd years and it kind of opened my eyes really because I thought well I've always wanted to help people hands on but this guy has earned all his life and given his money to save an insurmountable amount of lives.

Whenever we open a new business first year we give 10% cut to charity always and our latest business came in at a hefty price.

I think it will be enough for something like 100 drinking wells in Africa.

We do our bit to help the poor but again we think bigger.
