    Default Culture or Colour?

Ok before u lot have a pop, read carefully.

So me and my sister were talkng, and shes telln me how all the white ppl at work are ok with her,but can sort of turn their noses up at other asians.

Now this has happened to me too, where some white ppl have sed to me that they think of me as white.

The reason they think of me as white is because of the way i dress, coz i have gay mates, coz i go out with these ppl,so am classed as 'normal'..not how they normally think the way an asian woman shud be, ie: sat at home, not allowed out,and not allowed to have a job wear western clothes etc!!!!!

Also i have noticed tht sometimes wen am wearng asian clothes, some goray seem to be rude to me.

Now me and my sis think tht its not about colour but culture,as long as u ''fit in'' with white ppl,and their culture they seem to forget that u are a brown person.

So many times my white mates have sed to me they just see me as a ''tanned white gal'',that am normal.

So is it really about colour? Do these goray only call us brown wen we dress in our own clothes and act too desi??

Coz altho i were fasting, and only love desi food, they even seem to overlook tht too, just coz am wat they call someone 'normal'

i think tht if u understand their culture and go out with them now and again they seem to accept u,even accept the fact that you fast etc,coz u can also fit around them!!

    so wat u lot say?

They prefer to see clones of themselves it just reassures them that theyr way is right when they see asians taking it up.

Thats why I try not to be too white they should learn to respect the person regardless of their culture not be stuck up morons and only consider people who drop their own culture to adopt theirs as equals.

desimack you're absolutely right, on Eid I dressed differently and for some reason alot of the whites acted differently towards me (negatively, not talking to me as much) however whenever I wear "like them" they are more open with me.

Barrack Obama said in his biography that the white men he met would were happy with him as long as he smiled at them. As soon as he raised issues about black people he was just another black man to them.

It's a political attitude man George W Bush is a saint as long as he's polite and doesn't use abusive words irregardless of how many people he kills.

Rappers on the other hand are bad guys because even though they've never harmed a fly they "swear" in their music.

White people are very much into this political attitude they don't want people to judge them by their actions but by their words and appearance.

Shame asian people are falling into the ass licking pussio trend.

yeah i see what ur getting at, its the culture thats not accepted or 'normal' in this whiteman society. we have to act like them whether it b dress sense or our attitudes, we always wanna b able to fit in cos quite frankly who'd wanna b an outcaste of society.
I myself would b seen as a white gyal by the way i dress and the things i do, but look at it from another point of view yeah..we shudnt have to try n fit in, but actually show these people what our cultures about n be proud of it. Because the more we try and act like say a white friend they start to think that we dont have a basis in our culture. u kno wer all individuals, the just cant take it when say sum1s wearing asian clothes lol.

i agree with u. being the only muslim surrounded by like 850 gorai ppl tend to see me as "white" becoz i dont act/dress/speak like the other asians who tend to give us a bad name. It also comes down to stereotypes i believe (it dusnt help wen the media also puts a bad light over muslims) so they think in the back of their minds that the actions of a few on tv portray the actions of the rest. It also unfairly shows every asian is like that just because we have the same colour.
i wore a sherwani to my skl dance n everyone luved it coz it showed a different slant to me. were i wasnt like them n trying to "fit in" all the time. I guess it depends on the ppl and how much they know about our culture and whats true and whats false about what they've heard. Acting too desi does make alot of them uncomfortable. it wud be the same if we were in their shoes and a person was being too western.
Its good to let em see that not every asian is the same.

they all ask the same question tho ... "Do u have to get an arranged marriage to sum1 uv neva seen b4?" i love it

Yea I know what you mean, the same happens at my work, they see me as "normal" coz I dress in Western clothes and talk like they do and go out with them etc. Whereas on the other hand, there's a Muslim girl who works with us (she's the crazy one I'm always talking about lol) It's not because she doesn't go out with us or wears the same clothes as us, it's more because she's a hypocrite that people at my workplace don't like her.

goths? emos? lol they scare me man.

i kno exactly wat u mean. i go in2 town with gorai alot n if im talking with gorai gurls the asians (especially da gurls) assume in going out with them or sumfin. its quite pathetic n giving hugs... lets not evn go ther. they look at me bad coz i giv a goree a hug but its alrite for them to giv hugs to other asians? i get the piss taken out all the time at skl for being asian but its all for a gd banter. im the "gangster" in my year purely coz im asian lol we all talk like this "innit n if uz mess with me il get my big cuzn/brother/uncle/chachu n cuzns' cuzn's cuzn on u in ther blacked out m3 init so dnt mess with me yaar init" lol most gorai understand that not asians are like that once they meet sum1 who dispels any sterotypes that might hav had. its good being in a position that lets u do that.

even once u explain to them that an arranged marriage isnt what they think it is anymore they still ask u ... "did ur mum n dad get an arranged marriage?" haha
