    I thought that if an alcohol and a carboxylic acid was mixed, then an ester plus H2O would've been formed. Phenol isn't a carboxylic acid?

    phenol is an alcohol but remember that phenol has a ring of delocalised electrons which makes it differ from other alcohols

    Oh I shee...lol I only did an AS in chemistry and that was about 3 years ago. I can't remember much.

    coz phenols are not in AS chemistry

    they're the A2 bit

    but generally acohol + carboxylic acid -> ester + water

    i did biology, chemistry, physics and maths at A level

    i got an A in chemistry, B in physics, C in maths and C biology

    apart from that i did a BTEC in dance at college, i had to take evening classes and ow yea i got a B in that too i was like 2 marks off an A - i was gutted
