    Default Dell Inspirion 1525 Laptop

I'm interested in purchasing a new laptop and I have my eye set on a Dell Inspirion1525. Does anyone on here use this model, if so is it any good?

If anyone has a recommendation for a good laptop - ie. one I could use for a lot of my work and just browsing the net, could you let me know.

    Thanks

Well its the model advertised on the Dell Australia website and its a special deal for $799 Australian dollars. Which is like peanuts for you in the uk.

As I said before I just want it for work mainly and for browsing the net. Nothing else. It's a 15.4 inch screen and I checked the price for one that is 17 inches but its like double the price. Considering the one I use now is probably about 15 inches.. it wouldn't be such an issue. However, if there any other brands apart from Dell you know that are worthwhile purchasing let me know.

Vostro is the cheaper cousin of Inspiron.. I use the Dell Vostro 1700 and it's very similar and would definitely recommend it. It even functions as a decent gaming laptop and Dells are known to be quite cheap. I did alot of research before buying the right one though, you should start by looking through here : Dell Inspiron and Dell Studio - Notebook Forums and Laptop Discussion

it's not about the Brand if I am honest with you. Alot of people don't realise that, they assume a better brand will mean a better laptop. you want to be looking at the specifications of the laptop. the bigger brand you look into themore it's going to cost you and at lower specs compare to smaller brands.

One more thing to remember don't go for those package deals. Where you end up thinking you are getting a good deal as you;re getting a free printer/ scanner. But when you look into it properly the exxtra products are totally Shite! I remember a guy getting a free printer in the package deal he purchased. When he had to replace the ink cartridge for the printer. the cartridge cost more than his PRINTER!

Other Brands as you have asked, you can look into Toshiba, HP, Advent, Acer. They all normally sell at decent prices.

Nah, its not a package deal. It's a special on the laptop itself. I know quite a few people who have got their Dell laptop as a deal purchased directly from the Dell website and there wasn't any hidden catch.

I might check out some of those brands too.

    Cheers.

    I see...

I would look at either core 2 duo or the AMD equivalent. This means there are two processors instead of one, so whilst the clock speed is lower they actually run faster. Celeron is a cheaper chip, but you can see the drop in performance. Memory wise for Vista you need at least 2gb. I have 1gb on my laptop and run Vista, and it only just scrapes it. Hard drive size is irrelevent really. If you can afford it I would look at getting a laptop with an independant graphics card, something that says "Geeforce" or "Radeon", rather than "On board" or "Integrated". On board integrated chips use up system memory and run slow, and whilst you won't be running games your graphics card is still responsible for displaying everything you see. But you only need to avoid integrated chips if you attend to use games. i dont think you really need to worry about that tbh.

I actually went yesterday and checked out a few and I ended up getting a Dell Studio 17 inch, for only 200 Australian dollars more. Which I thought was pretty good. So yes I have a new laptop.. it arrives on the 9th of Jan.
