    Default English Literature & Books

Hmm I'm a little surprised to have come across this section, didn't expect it to exit in here actually. I'm very keen on Literature, I feel it's an amazing speciality, some see it, some don't, each to their own. BUT, for those that do, have any of you ever considered attempting to inscribe your thoughts in the forms of poetry...? I admire those who share the talent/skills. Would be great to read some of them.

In regards to books, I love to read, it is yet the only so called "hobby", I consider in my everyday life, but it's only non fictional (by ghostwriters/biographies), that does it for me. I've just finished reading 'Mummy come home', by Oxana Kalemi, as much as the title may not seem too flattering, it's worth the read, if you're into ghostwriters.

I'm hunting my next book now, any recommendations?

(Apologise if a similar thread already exists in here, but bear in mind, I do not read every thread before making a new one, so I wouldn't be ranting, if I'm not aware of the existance of one already made). Thank you.

I've thought about doing poetry but mostly I write rhymes (hip hop format) but recently I've wrote more about my thoughts, including some metaphors and similes etc. It really is powerful when you put your mind and heart into it. I'm working on something now because a friend has passed away recently, also due to some other subjects that matter. Haven't done it before but I feel more comfortable with it now. (my previous work is the first verse on the AP song that you hear when you load lol...)

Don't read books but when the time comes after I've settled down in life, it would interest me to read, but only to expand my knowledge further of certain subjects i.e. psychology.

    my old blog - mynameisaman

my new one isn't ready for the public.

check out the russian authors, gogol, dostoevsky, bulgakov are the ones that really saw me loose myself in their words. the characters are so beautifully realised, and the parables and the double and sometimes even triple entendres the situations develop are surreally expressive. but thats just my 2pence worth innit. depends what you like.

Hmm I see, well would it be wrong to assume you may have shared some of your work on here maybe...? I haven't actually looked through this section in depth. Unfortunately I am no one, with the great skills of poetic writing etc, but I put my thoughts down on paper. When you reflect upon it, the words stare back at you, usually in, what I'd say - a poignant manner. I'm terrible when it 's 'my turn' to be expressive verbally, I fail almost everytime, pen and paper is my best friend at those times.

Hmm I just had a read through it, I quite enjoyed it. You should consider doing more, maybe considering a bit more elaboration (just a thought), it seems to me you have potential in regards to this. It's good stuff.

Young Adult Fiction rocks my world. Yes I'm still a youth when it comes to books. Give me Pullman, Tolkien or Lewis anyday. I do like classics as well, So Dickens, Eyre and Bronte are also on my list; to name a few.

I can't stand poetry much. Narrow minded in that sense because a lot can be said with poetry that can't be said with prose. But I don't enjoy it.

My summer holiday, I've focused more on non-fiction though...Stylez should know lol.

I used to read A LOT! But now I just don't seem to find the time. I used to read Sci-fi, horror, and autobiographies...

I love all types of Literature. Have a great love for Shakespeare although I haven't read too many of his plays. Also like Agatha Christie. Haven't read too many modern authors though for some reason apart from Harry Potter.

As for poetry, I love poetry, reading it and especially writing it but I'm not really good at it. I like to write when I'm feeling emotional and find it comes out much easier. I've posted a few bits and bobs on here. I really want to write something new but just haven't got into the 'mode' yet so to speak.

For me it's all about expression, I got caught into the world of using words which are a bit less commonly used in everyday language just to try and impress others. I started concentrating on using synonyms to make it look better, which in return lost some of the emotion and direction, but now I'm at a stage where I'm a bit more confident and would rather the message was clear and not lost in translation, as that is more important. I don't post anything, I have put up a couple of practise tracks, and will do some more after I finish my dissertation (well hopefully...!) and then I concentrate on doing it more often.

Everyone starts somewhere, everyone was 'not so good' at one time in whatever they expertise in now.

Hmm I'm liking these responses, strangely I see no 'females' posting in here? Stereotyping ruins it all, but it's obvious.

Spider - that's pretty interesting, I'll be looking forward to some of your work guys, it really would be great. I find myself making use of a fair bit of 'oxymorons', they do me alot of 'justice' with these things.

It's never a pile of poo. Talent and skills are found in all, but diverse. That's a start and I genuinely think, it's pretty darn good. Usually I find myself jotting everything down, without having to think about it. Just putting the thoughts down on that bit of A5, at times, surprises me, beacuse it's real, it leaves the imagination to wonder later. Majority of what I write, is just what cannot be said. When compared to those pieces I've put that little bit more of an effort in, I find the latter, to be drowining in complexity.

Simple yet eloquent is always enhanced.

I enjoy reading. My writing has improved tenfold during the course of the last year. I'm hoping to start Uni next month to take English Literature. Prose I enjoy but I've fallen for Poetry. Reading poems at face value is one thing but I quite enjoy di-secting poems and trying to discover the many interpretations they can have.

I love how some people just have a way with words. JellyTots for instance, the way she writes is amazing.
