Let me tell you a true story.

2 People have asked me about Laptops and their budget was £400 also. Few days of research and they both bought this Laptop two weeks ago.

You are the third person to ask about a Laptop with the same budget. I would strongly suggest this laptop for your money:

ACER Aspire 5742 - Core i3, 4GB at cheap prices | PC World

Get it before the VAT goes up, you have a few days! Hurry!

Puhlease Zero. £1,600 is too cheap. I was thinking more like £2,500

Yeah the Acer's not bad, but the CPU is a bit on the low side and the graphics card only supports DX10 and not DX11, which is kind of the new standard (well slowly).

320GB HD is also kind of dated, where nowadays the standard is 500GB or even 1TB.

In which day and age do we have to live in to get bluetooth on a laptop, cos you don't get it on the Acer neither do you get stereo sound!

But I still guess that ain't a bad deal.

But it all depends on what you wanna do with the laptop.

I mean if its just for basic internet browsing and doing some work on it and occasionally burning the few cd's and dvd's here and there, then you don't even need a laptop as powerful as that, or ven need to spend that much. you can probably get away with a laptop that costs a couple of hundred.

I got the Dell XT2 Latitude, touch screen, notebook and laptop in one blah blah not worth it!

Look at Acer or HP, people at work who spent around 350-450 on them got some really good deals and they seem pretty good laptops too.

If you just want it for standard and basic stuff then why not just get a decent netbook?

The Dell Latitude 2110 is a decent laptop. We use it in my work place.

They come in a rubber case so its splash proof.

    10" screen
    Atom processor
    160GB HD
    1GB RAM
    Wireless
    Bluetooth
    Webcam

    and all the basics.

The 2 things it won't have is an OS, it comes with Ubuntu preinstalled and an optical drive.

The model that comes with 1GB RAM costs £289 and if you wanna up it to 2GB RAM then its an extra £28.

I can tell you that these things are actually quite good as we use them at work. I've even got one just for quick uses.

They look decent with the rubber casing, they're quick for what they are and quite durable for everyday tasks.

You'll see 2 on that page. The difference is that the 2110 comes with Win7 and a touchscreen.
