    Default Gaining weight

    I need help trying to put on weight, I've been trying for almost a year now and haven't got anywhere.

    I've tried weight gaining shakes, eating fatty food, even tried eating at night before bed :/ not very healthy I know but don't know what else to do!

    Does anyone have any ideas on what else I could be doing?

    Fly to Texas and eat a 4.5 pound steak with a side of salad, shrimp cocktail baked potatoes and a dinner roll.

    back to your weightgaining problems. Your body type to me sounds like you're ectomorph, (somebody who finds it hard to gain weight, might have a delicate or slim build, maybe appears quite tall etc).

    The problem I think you're facing is that you have a a very fast metoblism rate. The body breaks down the food your eating quickly and is utilised as energy in comparison to slower metabolism individuals.

    Since you're a girl, I dont think you will be doing much weight training. (which btw isn't necessaary to gain weight, it could have the apposite effect.)
    Eat foods high in carbs, such pasta, rice, breads etc. Eat food high in calories, throughout the day. Maybe have a little snack before bed. Invest in a box of icecream. eat it every day. All this will aid you to slower your metabolism, which will in return make you gain weight! Providing your not excerssing too much or being active! reduce it.
    Dont over do it though. Just get to the weight you want to be at. Then start leading a more healthier lifestyle!

    Also make sure your in calory surplus, i.e consuming more calories than your body needs.

    So in summary reduce activeness, increase calories which will slow your metabolism ( less calories will be burnt). You will gain weight!

    Anyway, Mr Incredible Sir, I eat alot of pasta, rice, chapattis and bread. When I eat I can't eat large amounts, I'll have a small portion and I'm stuffed ut it won't be long until I'm hungry again. So I am basically eating throughout the day.

    I have a problem with eating breakfast (I know they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day) but I just CANNOT eat anything solid in the mornings. I'll just have a cup of tea and that will last me until lunch time.

    I'm ALWAYS snacking before bed - crisps, chocolates and biscuits. I've only become active since I've sold my car a few months back. So I tend to walk everywhere now unlike before when I used to drive to go to the corner shop

    I don't want to change the shape of my body I'm happy with that just want to add a bit of fat to it.

    Anyways, thank you for your advice

    I've just read through that other thread and I have similar problems to Cheeky, my tummy feels and looks bloated after everything I eat but I'm not too worried about that as I want to gain weight before I tackle that.

    And I also have anaemia BUT when I took the tablets they gave me really bad stomach cramps and just made me feel ill. I stopped taking them and went back to the doctor they said just eat more leafy foods. (This was about 2 years ago)

    I had my blood tested again a few months ago and I was prescribed with the same iron tablets, took them for a couple of days and just gave up because I was having the same problems.

    I don't understand what to do

    lol, no wonder u aint putting weight on

    pizzas, curries, fried food, red meat, crisp & chocalalates as snacks etc is what u shud be eating

    what is ur current height/weight at the mo btw

    I'm about 5ft 5 and weigh just under 6 and half stones

    My gosh you are skinny, i did have a similar problem... well have done on and off throughout the seasons... cant gain weight... gain weight... cant gain again etc...

    as to your aneamia your docs right... more leafy food, avacado is good, (my mums aneamic but she aint skinny LOL ok thats harsh) so dnt worry too much about that, anaemia isnt the neccessary cause.

    You tummy bloating... are you getting pains? and what are your poos like? (ok dont answer that one but think about it to yourself) you could have irritable bowl syndrome... thats what made me go skinny on and off... ask your doc about getting tested for that..

    and if eveything else is in order, you could just generically be very skinny, i know by your weight and height it does seem a tad worrying, but there are people who are like that... i have a cousin like that!

    Ok that's fine... I was getting confused at what Tariq said was thinking I'm sure I'm not eating the wrong foods!

    I thought I'd give you a separate post as you're the only one apart from incredible who bothered to give me a decent reply - thank you

    I've never been able to gain weight always been quite small apart from when I a kid, was a fat blob lol

    And yh I do get abdominal pains here and there, feel like period pains even when I'm not due! The doctors are pretty useless I went to them about those pains and all they did was push my stomach in and said there's nothing wrong. But I will ask about IBS - I just read up on it and I do have many of the symptoms.

    I'm not too worried about the anaemia just don't want to so underweight that it'll affect my health.
