    Default Charity Walk

A friend's boyfriend is planning on walking up Ben Nevis for charity in July and has roped a whole bunch of us into joining him. We're all raising money for our own individual charities...I'm debating on which charity to choose.

Anyways has anyone on here done anything like this in past? What sort of training should I be doing? What sorta things to increase my fitness and stamina? Any advice would be welcome.

I'm more worried about the uphill climb... it's supposed to take on average 8 to 9 hours to go up and down using the tourist path.

You need to start training and preparing, walking/trekking is very difficult and Ben Nevis is no walk in the park, been there and done it!

Are you going to be camping over night or is it a day excursion? Will you be carrying your own equipment? Do you have walking boots? Waterproof clothing? lycra and weather-proof clothing? Sleeping mat, sleeping bag, tent etc..

As for training, you'll need to start training your leg muscles, lower back, shoulders. You'll be carrying your own equipment, usually you should train to carry 1.5x your body weight for women and 2x your body weight for men.

Start rowing, leg presses, light weights, cycling, running and walking on flat, up and down hill.

    OMEID INTERNATIONAL

I like this charity. I have a lot of time & money for them. It does very sincere, honest good work, unlike many charities whose aims includes giving Religions good PR too.

It's just a day excursion... will start early in the morning. The boots, clothing etc is all covered and not a problem.

I've started all the exercises, in the process of having a fitness plan drawn up. I'm actually quite looking forward to it.

I've got my own shortlist of charities I feel passionate about.
