I know what you mean, the amount of students we get here and the amount of parents with degrees we have coming in, they all think they're better than us just coz we have degrees and sometimes when they're in a strop they say "So what degree do you have then?".

I don't think I'm dumb and just coz I didn't go to uni it doesn't mean I'm dumb!

Quite a few people who work with me have degrees but they don't think they're better then me or anyone else, infact I go to them for advice coz most of them have done Law!

Out of 11 of my cousins (who have degrees) I earn more than atleast 5 of them, so just coz you have a degree doesn't mean you are going to earn more than everyone else and it doesn't mean you are going to get your dream job!

With most students, there isn't much demand for the kind of job they want so they end up with regular jobs for the rest of their life.

If you ask me, going to uni is more stressful than not going at all. More stressful as in you have atleast £21k debt when you finish, most people can't find any job at all straightaway and then alot of people can't get a job for the degree that they have done.

I'm glad I never went to uni!

Wow BAV first time I've seen you type an essay ever!

Anyway students are usually the biggest idiots in my experience considering the conditions they usually end up in.

God bless the child that can hold its own.

I went straight to work as soon as I left school aswell Mack. I worked for the company untill I was about 21.

Through the company I gained 4 different qualifications and got promoted various times.

Now I'm working for a different company and even though I'm still very young (24 in 2 weeks) I'm the IT Department manager. Most people here don't really like me cos I'm 24 and a manager, whereas other department managers they worked all their lives and still ain't got nowhere.

But I've worked hard in my life, I've worked hard to be where I wanna be, and I am.

I doubt that if I went to uni I would have been able to come to this position so soon. Cos I know first hand that having a uni degree won't prove to me that they can work under pressure. Sure enough if they were presented with a problem they would know how to fix it, but if the problem took a twist.

Plus the fact that nearly 905 of the planet uses Microsoft products, which is also the norm in unis today, what about using different products like Lotus Notes, or Mandrake, Linux, Unix. Sure students are probably taught all that, but I very much doubt they are given indepth knowledge.

I know for a fact that if a uni student was to come to me for a job now and I presented him/her with a Lotus Notes problem, like a user can't his/her workspace or they can't replicate from the server copy, they wouldn't know what I'm talking about.

I know what you mean man I've been around students and they generally don't have much knowledge outside of directly what theyr taught.

They can repeat what they've been told but they don't exactly understand the concepts behind it.

It seems like the more educated you are the dumber you are in actual life.

You rarely meet somebody thats actually smart and then has a degree too.

I think degree is more a skill than anything, if you can juggle a ball thats a skill too but it doens't make you a genius just means you can do another party trick.

Lol Desimack, you would usually see me type essays when I feel strongly about something, either that or I just type alot of crap!

At the end of the day, an employer is looking for experience and commitment, they don't really care about qualifications. I also help run my family business and it is going well.

My dad came into this country not knowing any English at all and look at him now, he ran a successful family business for 14 years (which unfortunately had to be closed down due to regeneration) but now we are running another family business and everything is going well! If I ever lose my job here or don't get re-deployed when it ends, I wouldn't mind running the business. Work from home, earn loads of money, it's a winner!

It's funny my dad's got a degree in something lucrative in the computer field but most the money he has made has been through the stock market

I'd say a real winner looks at the stock market.

That is so true, all my cousins who have degrees don't have a clue what it's like in the "real world"! When they went to uni, some of them got loans etc and also money from their parents whereas when I lived away from home, I supported myself (and my brother from time to time) I've never asked my parents for money since I moved out and even now that I'm living with them, I don't ask for money, I never ask me to buy me things and I sometimes even pay for grocery shopping (not as much now though coz we have a shop!)

Man my dad came home one day pissed off and I was like whats wrong he's like they give a degree to anybody nowadays I had to do these interviews today and these kids came in and when I asked them simple questions to just explain what they were taught they stumbled over their words.

It seems like they have no real sense man.

Its risky with the stock market. Cos you don't know if your share prices will rise or fall.

I think the moneys in the IT market. Be it you have to be fairly high up in the hierarchy to be in the money, but its still there.

My older brother is in investment banking and he does well for himself aswell. But the big money earner in our family is my sister. She's in the aerospace field, my god they get paid so much for doing fuck all.

Lol, I know how your dad feels Mack. I once did interviews a while back, and I got a few degree kids yeah. I simply set out a scenario to them on a Windows 2003 server and the replies I got was jus amazing. They were giving me solutions as if it was a Windows 2000 PC. I was like wtf are you going on about.

I think what they learn in uni, stays at uni. Cos once they're out thats it its gone out they're heads completely. Cos at the end of the day its just theory.

My sister was so unlucky though. Cos she was out of a job for nearly 2 years after getting her degree. But now she works for one of the worlds largest aeronautical space agencies. She's done well for herself.
