Default Computer Science and Computing Course

Well its that time of year; have to spend this summer looking at uni-shuni and drafting again and again that darn personal statement. Not exactly the ideal way to spend a 3 month(ish) holiday but its par for course obviously.

I was thinking before of doing pure maths at university, but I thought that I could go mental. So whats a course that applies maths & logic? Computer Science eh?

Does anyone know of any good unis that do the course? I've already got Kings, Imperial, UCL and Queen Mary's in the thoughts, but I need two more...is the University of East London good for it? I hear kingston as well has a good reputation for computer course graduates?

FAO CrazyT: I went to a Kings College open day today and is it true that your mascot...that lion...was thrown in the river thames by rogue UCL students? lol...

    Tough decisions, as it were.

Well with that many points, I would say....

UCL would be first, then Kings, I dont think Imperial is that good for Computer Science, I dunno.... If you looking at the University of London, make sure you pic the college that has the best facilities.

UEL is pants but Kingston is good in my opinion....

I think doing all these courses are just a time waste.

I mean if you wanna get into the IT field as a career in the future, then yeah once you get your degree you'll be able to show on paper that you know your shit, but in the real life can you perform.

Cos in my experience employers want employees that have practical experience rather than a piece of paer saying that they can do this and that.

Yep, experience is a must...which is why my courses that I choose have a year out in industry.

Also we had speakers day before yesterday on my open day from Vizuri ltd, Symbian and Goldman Sachs saying that theres a lot of cowboys out there saying "they have experience". You learn a lot at university, not jsut about the course you know.

It shows you have the proper brain. On paper: not just by word of mouth.

They wouldnt consider anyone for a top post without a degree...and their graduate startign salary is 24K. Pretty good if you ask me.

    @ Evil G. ~

Yeah UCL is on the mind defo...and so UEL is out then? I heard it was ok..but meh...

My cousin did some kind of computer course at Huddersfield Uni, took a year out to get experience and never went back! He couldn't get a placement so he started working at a call centre, but now he's got a job that he wanted without finishing uni!
