There's one poem that I absolutely love...
At first it was because there were a reference about Lesbians... but, now that I've understood the mushyNess... I love it that much more..

    Catullus - How many kisses...
The translated version isn't as good as the Latin.

It's quite a short poem... and I'm going to warn you, the translation just doesn't read as beautifully.

There was another poem, about rubbing oils over their entwined limbs in a cave...
I can't remember it much, though.

I wish I knew how to read those in Latin.
I get warmth and sentimentalism from the first read, I have yet to read between the lines, it's funny how meaning can change after you've read it a few times. Allowed yourself to be aware of the 'history' and the reason behind it. Question it. Is it really about his beloved Lesbia, is he being sentimental or mocking? Who is she, is she his mistress, his true love, his imagination? Ahhhhh... I miss Eng Lit! I like it. It's mysterious, i feel theres so much more to it.

    I love these by Rumi

With the Beloved's water of life, no illness remains

In the Beloved's rose garden of union, no thorn remains.

They say there is a window from one heart to another

How can there be a window where no wall remains?
    When it's cold and raining,

    you are more beautiful.

    And the snow brings me

    even closer to your lips.

The inner secret, that which was never born,

you are that freshness, and I am with you now.

    I can't explain the goings,

or the comings. You enter suddenly,

    and I am nowhere again.

    Inside the majesty.

The line about the illicit affiars that happen underneath the many stars, always made me think that Cattalus was refering to himself and Lesbia.

...then again, poetry is all about individual interpretation.
What I might understand, may not be what you find in the poem...

For example, Rumi's poem that you've just quoted.
It could be a sexual poem.
But, I doubt it. It's too obvious.

The line about Inner Secrets gave me Goose Pimples, though.
