Activities/Suggestions for Harmony - The Asian Place - Desi Forum

Hi folks!

In about two weeks the school is having a harmony themed day, in which students rotate around the school doing activities in small groups. Now the whole idea is to open their eyes up to other cultures etc in a teambuilding activity..so we have to choose one country or perhaps four and focus activities that run for about 10 mins each for students to do! For example someone is doing lawn balls and making chinese hats.

Now I would love some suggestions if any of you have some..I was thinking making Tibetan pray flags because they will be individual and the whole idea behind them is when the wind blows it brings luck, happiness, long life, prosperity etc..I don't know if its suitable or not....

So yes if you have a suggestion or comment post!

Dress up with baggy jeans and long shirts and chains rapping etc guns tucked in: USA

Belly dancing: The HAWAII style. honolulu girls.

Red Indians and Americans: There can be peace.

The pray flags seem like a really good idea.
They'd keep the kids occupied.

Are you allowed food?
Food is a great way to learn about other cultures, and kids love to get stuck in..
Maybe one activity could be making simple food from different cultures...? You could discuss the taste, the colours, the textures used in different cultures...
Maybe have different teams/tables make different food, and get them to compete against each other? Or, get them to taste each other's food?

Architecture?
Get kids to "recreate" famous buildings/architectures like the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China etc...
They could learn the story behind the places whilst making them?

Unfortunately, with the concerns in relation to food allergies there's no way we could do anything that requires using or tasting food. Shame really.

I like the ideas you gave me especially the architecture one!
