As you know there are many of us on here reaching or are in our prime age for marriage and I am sure many of us have started thinking about marriage at some point or another

So ladies and gentlemen as part of my own research I am interested to know what kind of things would you be looking to ask your potential spouse to be in the rishta meetings? How would you like your rishta to be conducted? Also mention what you wouldn't like to happen.

When replying to this please consider your social context, your family, what your future aspirations are.

Be realistic in your possible questioning.

Floor open to both male and females.

Discuss.

I would just like to know him for who he is just like I would with anyone and after meeting up a few times, slowly start breaking in questions about the future etc.

To start of with, I just ask him what he likes, interests and what not. See if you fit.

After, if things get more serious.. I'd ask about veiws such as me working after marriage, in or out with the in laws blah blah.

Id perfer for me ta know straight from the start.

I'd ask her whats she thinks about me? make sure there isn't pressure from her parents to marry me.

I'd also like to know if she has had previous partners...if so whom? how long for/ the seriousiness of these relationships, was it sexual? do i know these people? oh ofcourse I will tell her my history to if she wanted to know.

If she is/was a villaige bike then sorry no can do.

I'd like to know her intrests too. I mean what does she like doing in her spare times see if these intrests conflict with mine etc.

That's all I need to know.

incredible said some key thing with the whole interests bit, i think being straight forward and honest is the best way forward... I've been preparing for marriage for a while now... But in general... Asking what she would like to do about work, whether she wants to work or sit on her ass at home, whether she wants/minds living with your family or would she want the two of you to move out soon after... Give her your opinions on what you've asked her and see if you have any answer that are the same and obvuisly what she wants to do.. As is this something she is comfortable with or was it something she had no choice about because being emotionally blackmiled or forced still happens without the side knowing...

okay seriously!

Try and make sure SHE comes to visit you...So you on sitting and she walks in...she feels more intimidated and you have the upper advantage, you got the ball in play

just say howdy introduce yourself, she'll do the same. Now you can throw any question in like.. This is an akward moment for me aswell but im a straight up guy, (you have shown her your confidence).

Are you happy to walk in to this room out of your own free will or i completely understand if it's not. (you have shown your open minded-ness).

-background check (education/work etc)
-What you look for in a marriage
-issues in marriage etc.. would she like to work or be a housewife?
-Likes/dislikes ie habits/places/hobbies.

from this you can just build a good rapport.

what incredible jus said jus makes me think how immature my mind is still about marriage! i never really thought of it in that way...man im glad im still young and i have freedom still..

Oi hoi shundhor we all could do with your wisdom, you have been through it, done and dusted!

But yes I think there should be nothing hidden during these meetings, any issues you may have should be brought to the table and discussed, saves you haveing to deal with it afterwards when you find out that that's not what you really wanted or what your partner wanted and thing's don't work out.

I would want to know about him, what he likes/dislikes, his work, interests and hobbies. I'd want him to show an interest in me and ask me similar questions. Then maybe once we're a bit more comfortable, I can break out the important questions like how he'd feel if I continued to work, living away from in-laws, what he expects from me as a wife etc. If we disagreed on something which was quite important then it's better it surfaced at this stage and if it's something which we couldn't resolve or compromise then I'd much rather find out now.
