Default Going:Growing OLD

Nobody is immune to ageing.
Everyone (providing they dont die beforehand) will grow to be old and grey one day.

(Obviously some may prolong their beauty/youth appearence on the outside by using surgery, creams ect ect....
.....But you cant hide the facts forvever....)

And physically you will be alot more weaker then a younger person.

I could go on about old age and the not so usually joyous last days that come with it (id be an expert because I happen to work in and old person care home )

But I'l just keep it simple 'cause need to be off in a min

ok um some Q's.

At what age do "you" think you would class some one as being Old?
Where do you think you would be at the age of 70? (if your still alive)
What do you think the worst thing about growing old is?
What do you think a good thing about growing old is? (there are good things too believe it or not )

times up. I better be off. I'l answer my own questions later on.

(Btw feel free not to answer with pointless answers or if the topic of this thread doesnt appeal to you)

What do you think the worst thing about growing old is?

Not having your independence, you come into this world as a baby and you leave (if you grow old) as a baby.

What do you think a good thing about growing old is? (there are good things too believe it or not )

I don't think there is one to be honest! These days everyones pretty much clued up about everything.

65+

Where do you think you would be at the age of 70? (if your still alive)
Hopefully NOT in a care home.

What do you think the worst thing about growing old is?
* Feeling like a burden if some one has to look after you
(this is the worst
* Not being able to eat some kinds of food because of age e.g sweets or hard foods.
* being bed-ridden or too weak to walk or stand
* losing my other half and living without them
* Losing my job to some one younger
* Family not being bothered about me

What do you think a good thing about growing old is?
Well...... You get to see the world a little bit longer.
If your lucky maybe see grandchildren, great grandchildren ect.

But to be honest. The Disadvantages of being old outweigh the advantages.
Which is quite sad.

Good thread.

At what age do "you" think you would class some one as being Old?

Erm I dunno. It'd depend on the person tbh. Some people look really aged by the time they're 50. While some people like Sanjay Dutt still look pretty awesome. Amitabh was about 50 in Khuda Gawah and he still looked great. Of course they're film stars so they're made to look good but you see it in real life too. I think 60+ is old..

Where do you think you would be at the age of 70? (if your still alive)

No idea. Don't know where I'll be in 5 years let alone where I'll be when im 70!

What do you think the worst thing about growing old is?

Not being able to look after yourself and being a burden on someone.

What do you think a good thing about growing old is? (there are good things too believe it or not )

Reminscing about the old dats. I love talking and reading accounts of how life was back in the day. And I'm sure we'll be doing the same when we hit that age.

Hmm quite interesting.

Life is a purpose in itself, there is alot to learn from it, experience & mistakes, twists & turns, all form, what we call "life". Whether we succeed the given test by Almighty or not, will be discovered in this world and thereafter (I believe). Old age, is just another term, for going back to 'step one' again. Our time here is decreasing by the second & our capabilities lessen. But it's possibly the thought of being able to see the generation next, that somewhat gives us another 'purpose' added to the list.

Your first question, I find is a little absurd. You're as old as you feel, it's almost psychological. Thinking about where I may be in another 45+ years time isn't anything I've reflected upon, it's too far ahead. As far as pro's & cons refer to what I said, in my first paragraph. I may come back to this.*

My first question wasnt "absurd". Maybe you didnt understand it properly.

Obviously I know its a pyschological thing and different people have different ages at which they would class at being old. Some think 50 is old, some 60.

I was just interested in what age the members of ap would class as "Old".

It can be a pretty tough job though too.

First female dentist? lol that is pretty cool.

I dont think we got anyone famous, but do know one of the residents (thats what we all them) was in a rock band back in the days and was pretty famous.
Forgotten what it was called though.

And theres this women who has loads of these tapestry things
(that she made herself)
They look really really good.
One of them apparently shes going to give away to a museum after she passes away, and is worth over £1,000. Thats the biggest one out of the 8 she has and stretches from one side of wall to other.

And yeah your right it is a tough job to do. The main thing you have to remember is to always always keep SMILING, and to be patient.

Tbh I dont blame the ones that are really bitter, and snap, and shout and demand all the time. Theres a lot at ours that get really depressed because of an illness they have, or family never comes to visit...ect

Pretty sad to see them when they like that. Dread the thought that could be me one day....

At what age do "you" think you would class some one as being Old?

I don't use age as a guide.
I use attitude and behaviour.
I have forty year old friends who are more youthful than some 25 year olds that I know.

Where do you think you would be at the age of 70?

It would depend.
I would hope that I'd still have my movement, and my sanity.
I would hope that life didn't make me bitter, but if I go down one of the paths that is being paved for me as we speak, it's pretty clear that it's going to be full of resentment and anger.

What do you think the worst thing about growing old is?

I have always used this quote when working in community groups,
Si jeunesse savait, et si vieillesse pouvait...
If the young (people) knew, and if the elders could (do).
You'd have experienced so much, and have gained so much knowledge and wealth, but would be restricted by your body.

What do you think a good thing about growing old is?

Experiencing more things.
