Right, A Quick Poll to see what software you guys are using to protect your PC:

Am using McAfee 2007 Professional.

Please state your program(s) and why you have them and if you've experienced any problems.

Thanx In Advance!

Use AVG, ZoneAlarm and Windows Defender.

Never had a problem with AVG and ZoneAlarm, and when I added Windows Defender into the mix, it just worked even better.

Norton, McAfee are just a load of codswallop. They're too big and hog tooooooo many system resources when the PC is booting up and during normal usage, ever wonder why your PC takes so long to load, if you have Norton or McAfee installed?

AVG does exactly what Norton does, if not better, and there's an update to it everyday, just shows up-to-date AVG is.

(And yes I have a personal grudge against Norton, shitty program messed my machine up so many times in the past. SHOOT THE BASTARD THAT INVENTED NORTON!)

Ritz, Is Zone Alarm just A Firewall suite?

Cos if youre saying AVG, then I can get AVG antivirus with Internet security suite as well.

Also, have you heard of NOD32?

Ritz_Crackers
07-04-2007, 17:35
Yeah, AVG is just a stand alone anti virus program and ZoneAlarm is a stand alone firewall program.

Alryt, thanx, oh and one more thing, was Windows 2000 any good by the way? As in terms of crashes and bugs?

Ritz_Crackers
07-04-2007, 17:45
Windows 2000 is the best OS you can get, but thats only if you configure it properly. But then again thats just my opinion, other people might say different.

But then again it all depends. If in terms of gaming, then it was Windows 98 SE that was the most stable, cos they used the most simplest of base coing for the OS, but if in terms of networking and application control and stability, then it was Windows 2000, again cos of the base coding they used.

Windows XP is exactly the same as Windows 2000, but its just glorified with the GUI's, nothing else. But because of the GUI's its got so many instabilities within it.

It doesn't matter if you have a quick PC Irfan. Those big programs hog too many system resources.

Yeah for the first few weeks it'll probably seem like that its running ok, but you will see a decline in speed over time. The same goes for CD and DVD burning programs like Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator Suites. Again they hog too many system resources.

I mean I use a program called Ashampoo Media creator or Sonic Studio Creator. They both do EXACTLY what Roxio does, but don't use so many system resources.

In this day and age these kind of programs are becoming so big its just silly, I mean what need is there for a CD/DVD burning program like Roxio to be a nearly 1GB install?

They make these programs so big cos they wanna make you think that your PC isn't up to scracth, hence you go out and buy another one or spend money upgrading it. End of the day you still spend money, thats what these companies want you to do.

Yeah there are technologies out there that DO require a very powerful computer, for example the next gen of games do, but at the present moment in time there is no need to go crazy and spend thousands of £'s on the equipment required for these technologies, cos 99% of the time, the average computer user will never ever use them.

Irfan I'll give you an example ok.

You've heard of Nero yeah? It's a CD burning software. Granted there are versions of Nero out there that do CD and DVD, but for the time being lets stick with Nero ok.

Use Nero to burn CD and watch how long it takes. Yeah the burning times depends on the speed of your burner, but watch how long it takes Nero to load up all of its tools and shit.

Now on the other hand download and install a program called DeepBurner. Don't worry its free. Watch how long that program takes to load up, AND notice how small the install is when its been installed.

Do you know what the difference between Nero Burning ROM and DeepBurner is? Absolutely FUCK ALL. They both do EXACTly the same thing, yet Nero takes up nearly 600MB of space when full installed AND you have to pay for it, and DeepBurner takes up about 50MB max i think it is, or less and its FREE.

Another prime example would be between Windows Media PLayer and VLC Player.

Yeah sure WMP is free, it comes with Windows OS as standard, but its just so unstable. The slightest the file is corrupted (as in you're watching a film and only about a second or two is corrupted) WMP will crash and then that will cause a mnock on effect and so forth blah blah blah. Not to mention the fact that you have to download so many friggin codec packs to play this file and that file and etc.

Now VLC plays absolutely everything and anything, and it won't ever crash on you, even if there's 2 seconds of corrupted data, and again its only a small install compared to WMP's huge installs.

lol god knows what norton you guys are using im using the ultimate norton antivirus sysmantec. Its super small, it dosent clog up your sys resources and is always auto enabled and guess what ive never ever had a virus on my computer! thats right ive never had a virus! NEEVEEER!

Back in the days when i was 56k i was more seseptible to viruses and yes i did download viruses but my norton zapped it asap. With my norton its very small! it does its auto update etc!

Ive even had a virus on my mobile phone someone sent me, i just hooked it on my PC and before i knew it norton zapped it. NORTON IS THE WORLDS BEST. i dont know what you guys are using but the one im using is the best.

If i did a poll and asked you guys whos ever had a virus on their life time on their computer/laptop im sure i'll get a 100% reply and dont try telling me you've never had a virus which went undetected. Trust me people no joke ive never had a virus actually execute itself or attack and destroy anything on my PC. Never ever!

:D

Norton Sysmantec forever!

i think i know what the problem is. I just realised i have my uncles company anti-virus software.... i doubt that should make a difference. The one i have is only 4,705kb its really small! installs in a flash and sits near my clock. Mine looks like this, does your one look anything like this Sidra? does it have the nav icon near the clock area?

Kayz you fraggl, do you know why your version of Norton Antivirus iss small, its cos you have the corporate version installed.

1. Its not even called Norton, its called Symantec Antivirus. Norton Antivirus and Symantec Antivirus re 2 diferent products.

2. The reason its small is ccos its for corporate clients. The end user wouldn't exactly be thrilled when everytime he switched on his laptop or PC he/she had to wait ages for it to load up. Thats why its so small.

3. The reason why its so good is again cos its the corporate version. The corporate versions of antivirus programs usually have 2 base coding programs in them. One for it to actually start the program up when the PC boots up, and the second to start the antivirus protection of the PC.

Normal consumer versions ddon't work like that. Thats why they take so long to load up and thats why they use so many system resources.

We use Symantec Antivirus at work, and yeahs it does wonders and stops nearly all viruses, cos the antivirus server mainly monitors all PC's on the network and looks over them.

Noone used bitdefender?? Its supposed to be the best upcoming!
But if you downloading it from one of THOSE websites (;)) then you wont be eligible for updates....cos the bitdefender keygen had a trojan...and noobs sent the virus report back to the labs....so it blacklisted nearly all serials until validation by original users....if it wasnt for this...I wouldve stuck wid bitdefender!

That probbly happens cos one of your .exe files are probably registering as a virus, which is strange cos it shouldn't happen at all seeing as we both play the same games.

I swear Sysmantec is part of Norton man or vice versa, they surely are partners or work together, if you go on their site you will see norton licenses etc, there are very few sysmantec products:
