Default So u've got a degree

Everyone I know has passed mashallah.. All come out with a degree whether its a 1st or a 3rd.. but does havin a degree really hold as much value these days? I remember in my last year at college my tutor was actually encouraging us to go straight into work and not apply to uni.. because it doesn't necessarily give u better hope of gettin a job.

I jus realised cos i'm sat here in a full time job.. graduation on the way.. but havin my degree hasn't helped me get this job at all.. ok it's in the same field of work but still, if i had failed uni i would still be kept on here.. still get the same training etc.. hmm

So how many of youz have graduated and actually got a job resulting from this? Or have you ended up doin somethin totally different? Or those that have just passed what are your plans next? Hmmm

Well aparrently 50% of employers don't care what degree you have, they just want you to have a degree. If there was a job with 2 people who are just as good at the job as one another but one had a degree, the employer would most likely pick the one with the degree.

I think that is true, but that's just my opinion, I'm sure you will get better responses from people who actually have degrees

this thread has been made a good 2/3 times now im sure? lol
obviously a degree helps you, no matter what.
alot of people who are saying it doesn't are the ones who went straight into work, got luck found a good job and are happy, or people who cant be arsed with further education.

you never know what is gonna happen with your future, what happens if they sack you from your job, let you go and you be jobless. that means your on your ass. your degree stays with you forever, no matter what, and its a personal achievement.

if you then need to find a job, you can say 'i worked for this, i got this degree, i feel it will help in the job as ...' ...
however, if you don't have one, what are you going to say?
'erm wel ... i dont have a degree, but i do have work experience ! ... i got laid off however, but still ... i did it!' doesn't sound as good does it?

Actually my workmates do have degrees in Law, Geography and I can't remember what the others have but 2 have Law degrees. The temps are all at uni though.

And there are people who have got like degree jobs who don't have a degree coz they have the experience and that's what matters.

Having a degree just means you know the theory, doesn't mean you can actually do the job
