Don't reiterate what you've written on your CV. (that's quite obvious)
Keep it to the point, be direct. It's your chance to be smug without being disliked!
Big them up, big yourself up.
Here's bits of mine, just so you get the jist..
I like to lick arse.I am very interested in ' so and so ' position and would appreciate your consideration of my candidacy.
Your advertisement states that you are seeking a person with ' so and so ' skills, as well as experience in ' blah blah '
I am currently employed by ................ I have gained invaluable experience in ' blah blah '
I feel that I am an excellent match for the position and having read the ' job description ', I am genuinely excited by the prospect of working for a company that is committed to ' whatever '
It helps.
Is it to actually apply for a job or one to go with your application that you've filled in?
prizzle you're basically trying to sell yourself.... if you're on tonight i can write one for you. all i require is basic info like what have you done in the past i.e school/ work etc.

Yea I think just look at what they're looking for in the applicant and briefly mention how you fulfil the criteria.
