    Default Blue screen on laptop!

Ok, so I replaced a hinge on a laptop without any major problems. But not when it turns on Windows is unable to loads. The repair tool can't do anything and if i start windows normally, the blue screen comes up (I'm thinking this might have happen when the laptop got damaged)

My question is in 2 parts:

    1. Will I need to do a complete wipeout and restore to factory settings?

    2. How do I get the data from the laptop's 2 HDs onto an external HD?

Any help and advise will be appreciated, thank you

Instead of faffing about with Ubuntu (which I doubt will work anyways, as the hard drives have to bet up in slave mode before any back up process), try and get a hard drive caddy. you can get HD caddies for a few quid on eBay these days.

If its a SATA one then get a SATA caddy, if its a IDE HD, then get a IDE caddy.

Once you have the caddy, shove it onto a normal pc or another laptop. Open up your faulty laptop, get out the hard drives, make sure the jumper is set to cable select and stick the hard drive into the caddy.

Now if you did everything properly (which you should have, cos its piss easy. If you managed to fuck it up, you fail life), then when you stick in the hard drive into the caddy, it will come up as an external USB hard drive.

You can now safely get all your files off it and onto the working hard drive.

I've done this before. And I didn't use any caddy's or remove the drive at all.... I could tell you how to do it too... But LOL. I won't.

Ritz, i'm a stupid head....i ordered an IDE instead of a SATA by mistake.....so the laptop is put on hold until i exchange the caddies.
